8 Ways to Celebrate Mother’s Day Even When You’re Quarantined

The way we celebrate has changed since we went on quarantine, but the special days keep coming. Mother’s Day is just around the corner, and while we can’t treat our mothers out to a nice dinner or plan short weekend trips, we can still celebrate our moms at home. Here’s how to make your mother feel special this year:
Moms usually wake up the earliest to whip up something that’ll start the whole family’s day on the right note. Turn the tables around this time and treat her with some buttery pancakes and sweet bacon with a cup of hot coffee in bed. (Or her favorite Pinoy breakfast combo, if that’s more to her taste.) Your mom might say it’s cheesy, but we guarantee that once you leave the room, she’ll be smiling from ear to ear and taking 50 photos for her Facebook.
Have you gotten on the quarantine baking bandwagon yet? If not, now’s the perfect time to do so. Skip the usual store-bought cake from your favorite bakeshop and try to make your own! There are plenty of easy recipes online and in case you don’t have an oven, you can always opt for a fridge cake or another easy-to-make dessert.
If your kitchen skills are not up to speed, opt for delivery. You might also find it difficult to buy groceries on your own since one quarantine pass is only given to each household or you might fail in getting all of the ingredients you need. Fortunately, there are many restaurants and services delivering right now. It’s quick and easy, and all you have to do is pig out.

And the topic is: why is your mom the best? Have a PowerPoint battle with your siblings and see who can make your mom cry first! It’s a fun way to show your appreciation to your mom, who has one of the hardest jobs in the world.
Thanks to the internet, we can still spoil our mom with gifts even without going to the mall. But you’ll have to do your online shopping early, so don’t delay. Prepare a kikay kit for your mom, or even a pamper night/self-care basket. If she loves to cook, why don’t you give her new utensils, pots, and pans? There are sales happening right now and they might make it in time for Mother’s Day.
In this house, we do not let the queen lift a finger! Take over the household chores on her special day. Let her rest and enjoy for a day. You can prepare a binge list of light movies or K-dramas for her to enjoy, complete with snacks. And don’t just stop at Mother’s Day. Keep doing these chores around the house so that your mom doesn’t have to do most of the housework anymore. After all, moms deserve a break too.
Who said you can’t travel while on quarantine? There are plenty of online classes you can enjoy with your mom from different experts around the globe. You can do a quick yoga workout in the morning from a yogi in Italy or take a cooking masterclass by Gordon Ramsay. Learning something new is always fun and it’s even better when you’re doing it with your mom.
Hand-drawn portraits never fail to make anyone feel special. Choose one of your favorite photos of your mom, preferably one that reminds you of a certain memory, and have it commissioned. It’s one way to immortalize a memory and support an artist who might not be earning during the quarantine. You do not only show your appreciation to your mom but also to an artist by supporting their craft.
At the end of the day, showing appreciation to your mom doesn’t require the grandest gestures. Make every day Mother’s Day because these women are heroes without capes. Here’s to all of the moms!
