What’s it about? Three friends (Hrithik Roshan, Abhay Deol, Farhan Akhtar) reunite to pursue their dream vacation before one of them ties the knot.
Why see it? You’ll certainly find best friends in the wacky trio of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, who will tag you along with them on a life-changing road trip across Spain – from throwing tomatoes at the La Tomatina Festival, to running away from bulls in Pamplona.
Memorable movie quote: “If you carry eagerness in your heart then you are living. If you carry dreams in your eyes then you are living. Learn to live freely like the wind; learn to flow freely like the river… Embrace every moment with open arms; see a new horizon every moment with your eyes. If you carry surprises in your eyes, then you are living. If you carry eagerness in your heart then you are living.”
What’s it about? Vicky (Ayushman Khurrana), a good-for-nothing man in his 20s, is hired by a fertility specialist to supply him with his sperms – a job which he chose to keep as a secret. Trouble arises when he falls in love with Ashima (Yami Gautam), a beautiful divorcée, who’s unable to have children.
Why see it? Don’t let the off-beat theme of this film stop you from watching it! Vicky Donor has the perfect marriage of comedy and romance (plus some drama) told in the point of view of a guy with a job that’s still considered taboo in many societies today.
Memorable movie quote: “Come a little above the sperm—there is a thing called heart.”
What’s it about? A war between two culturally opposite families ensues, as college sweethearts Krish (Arjun Kapoor) and Ananya (Alia Bhatt) seek their parents’ permission to marry.
Why see it? Based on the partly-autobiographical novel of the same title by Indian author Chetan Bhagat, who penned Five Point Someone a.k.a. the book 3 Idiots was loosely based upon, 2 States is a modern-day Romeo and Juliet story minus the tragedy, topped with packs of laughter.
Memorable movie quote: “If suddenly everything becomes alright, then life becomes boring.”
What’s it about? Ambitious yet good-natured underachiever Harpreet (Ranbir Kapoor) clinches a spot at a large sales agency in India as his first job. But when he comes in terms with the dishonesty of the people in his new environment, he decides to take matters in his own hands.
Why see it? If you think your dreams are too big to achieve, this film might just give you a sliver of hope. Highly relatable and easy on the feels, Harpreet’s story will paint a smile on your face.
Memorable movie quote: “Boss, my grades are low, but not my mind.”
