Her last acting project

It has been a long while since we’ve seen Lustre on screen, whether big or small. Her last TV show was Til I Met You, which aired its finale in 2016. Meanwhile, Lustre starred in two films in 2019, namely Ulan and Indak, after which she went on an indefinite acting hiatus.

What happened during her acting hiatus?

While the hiatus was unofficial (meaning, she didn’t say outright that she would be taking a break, it just happened), Lustre focused on her music career. She released her first full-length record Wildest Dreams in 2020.

Lustre was also in the middle of a long legal battle with her agency Viva Artists Agency. She wanted to terminate her contract with Viva last January 2020, calling it “oppressive” and “illegal”, while Viva cited their contract that she would be their exclusive talent until June 2029. In June 2021, the court ruled in favor of Viva, which means Lustre must honor her contract with the agency. However, Lustre’s camp believes the ruling is still a win, since Viva will not be given a portion of her “hard-earned money during the time of her self-management,” which includes those from her latest album.

The new project

Tentatively titled “Greed,” the new project is directed by Yam Laranas and produced by Viva Films. Last week, the director shared photos from the cast and crew’s virtual table read. Joining Laranas and Lustre are actors Diego Loyzaga and Epy Quizon.

Nadine as lead actress

From the table read, fans have inferred that Lustre will be headlining the film as lead actress with Loyzaga and Quizon as co-stars. After the award-winning success of her projects with her as lead actress like Til I Met You, Never Not Love You, and Ulan, so many fans are already looking forward to this upcoming film.

Will it be a horror film?

Laranas is best known for his work in the horror genre, so it’s safe to bet that this new film would also be along those lines. He was responsible for the hair-raising, heart-stopping films such as Aurora, The Road, Abomination, and Sigaw, which was adapted into the English language remake The Echo.

The director also released teasers on his Instagram account. In one post, he shared photos of old wooden structures and a village field. In another, Laranas is seen with a bloody eye make-up, and in all of these posts, Lustre and her co-stars are tagged. It’s safe to say that it would be a type of horror film set in a rural village.

This would be a refreshing change for the actress, who has mostly focused on romance and drama for her TV show and film roles. The closest work in the horror genre that Lustre had was her special role in the 2015 mystery thriller Chain Mail.

Theatrical or streaming release?

When Laranas shared a tiny portion of the script, he tagged Viva Films and its streaming service Viva Max. And while there is still no official release date, it’s safe to say that for now, the film will be released through streaming via Viva Max. Depending on the country’s pandemic situation on the film’s release date, the film may or may not be released theatrically.

Filming soon

According to the director’s Instagram posts, the film is set to start their lock-in taping in the first week of November. Over the next few months, we’re hoping to get more details about the movie and maybe even some teasers from the cast and crew. Fingers crossed!

Lustre’s fans have been dominating the trending topics on social media in support of the actress’ much-awaited comeback. “ACTRESS NADINE COMEBACK” and “#NadineForGreed” are only a couple of the keywords that her fans have put on the trends list.
