It’s 2019! Welcome to a whole new year of doing…exactly the same things. Like binge-watching shows on Netflix instead of actually doing something productive out of bed. But hey, January’s got tons of amazing and intriguing shows lined up for release and we just can’t wait to watch them all. Here are the most notable ones that we’re adding to our to-watch list!
For all those who missed Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral, which had been the most anticipated film following Jerrold Tarog’s groundbreaking biopic Heneral Luna, you can finally catch it on Netflix this January!
Goyo depicts the rise and fall of the boy general Gregorio Del Pilar, portrayed by Paulo Avelino, that which culminates at the infamous Battle of Tirad Pass.

Although not a Netflix original, FX’s new American Crime Story series about Gianni Versace’s murder is coming to the streaming platform and is a must to watch. The Assassination of Gianni Versace doesn’t, unlike what most assume, focus on the fashion mogul (depicted by Édgar Ramírez) and his legacy. Rather, the series spends most of its time talking about his killer, Andrew Cunanan (portrayed by Golden Globe winner Darren Criss) — his life, his upbringing, and his killing spree that culminates with gun shots to Gianni Versace’s head and, shortly after, his suicide.
The show is meant to give any of us answers or make us understand the reason why such a tragedy could happen. But it does open our eyes to the reality that people like Cunanan can exist in this world — complex, manipulative, empty souls whose actions can never be truly explained by anything other than “he wanted to.”
Available on Netflix starting January 17.
As the beloved series draws to a close this month, Kimmy Schmidt (Ellie Kemper) is given the choice to either help her friends Titus (Tituss Burgess), Jacqueline (Jane Krakowski) and Lillian (Carol Kane), or help her own self. The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’s Season Finale is also set to explore an alternate reality that shows how each of the character’s lives may have been different if Kimmy had never been kidnapped.
Fans are guaranteed to be moved to tears as much as they have been brought to laughter throughout the seasons, and if Kimmy Schmidt has always been in your Netflix to-watch list, then now is the time to binge-watch the show like crazy before the last batch of episodes airs!
Available on Netflix starting January 25.
