A logo is a form of brand identity for any business or organization that distinguishes them from everyone else. A logo should also tell the audience what the organization stands for and marks a great first impression. But that doesn’t seem to be the case for the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR), because its redesigned logo has gone viral for not-so-good reasons.
PAGCOR celebrated its 40th anniversary at the Marriott Hotel Manila yesterday, looking back to all its accomplishments and decades of contributions to the country. The event also saw the official unveiling of PAGCOR’s new logo. It features an abstract-looking shape in shades of red and blue, replacing the former logo consisting of two hands and a sun.
“The new PAGCOR logo incorporates the element of fire associated with energy, inspiration, passion, and transformation. It symbolizes the flame that ignites change and drives progress,” PAGCOR Chairman and CEO Alejandro H. Tengco says.
Tengco added the updated logo represents “a guiding light that helps people find their way.”
“All these taken together, our new logo reflects PAGCOR’s long-standing commitment of being a guiding force that illuminates the way forward, drives transformation and development, and brings inspiration and motivation to the lives it touches.”
The Love the Philippines fiasco is still fresh on everyone’s minds. And to witness another one is enough to elicit a cold reception from netizens. Some say PAGCOR’s new logo reminds them of a particular gas corporation and a shrimp.

It’s also reported PAGCOR spent more than three million pesos on the logo. However, netizens say the state-run gaming and regulatory firm could’ve opted for a logo-making contest instead.
“With the creativity of Filipinos, a much better logo could have surfaced, especially if the winning design would be awarded millions of pesos,” one netizen wrote.

Some believe the logo change wasn’t necessary because why fix something that’s not broken?
These controversies on the DOT’s slogan and PAGCOR’s new logo could easily have been avoided if more people believed in the wisdom of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
