Remember the first time news broke out that there are COVID-19 patients in the country already? We had just recovered from the Taal eruption then, and masks began selling out again everywhere. Gone are the days when we searched high and low for surgical face masks, as they’re only worn by doctors and medical staff. Wearing face masks is mandatory and we’ve seen people go far and beyond with theirs! Check out these creative and stylish face masks as we embrace the new normal:
Since mass gatherings aren’t allowed yet, wedding ceremonies have to downsize too. In the Philippines, only the bride and groom, their parents, and a set of sponsors are allowed in the ceremony as prescribed by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP). We’ve also seen couples hold weddings via Zoom so that the whole entourage would be present!
But the new normal doesn’t mean brides can’t be extra AF. This makeup academy in Indonesia knows how to make their bride feel extra special by bedazzling her face mask with lace, sequins, and diamonds. How eye-catching!
When artists are bored at home, you get something like this! Remember the funny printed masks we used to see before? This is 10 times cooler. The best part is, you can change the cloth mask inside. This Pinoy dad who does prosthetics is definitely making Halloween feel nearer!
Face masks make communication more difficult, especially for people who rely on lip-reading to communicate. Justine Bate is a deaf mother who went viral after designing face masks with transparent windows for her and her daughter, who is also deaf. She feared that her daughter will not be able to socialize with her friends since regular masks don’t allow lip-reading.
Face masks are a common sight if you go to Asian countries like Japan. And they’re known for the quirkiest mask designs: from lace masks to fuzzy ones with cute characters on them. This Japanese artist took it to the next level by embroidering on it. Tbh, it’s too beautiful to wear! If you want to get into embroidery, you might want to check their page for inspiration.
We’ve seen the news or heard experiences from friends about frontliners having discomfort from wearing protective gear in the hospital. Often times, their faces are left with marks from goggles and their ears feel sore from the elastic material of masks digging into their skin. This Californian designed colorful masks with matching headbands to ease the discomfort of medical frontliners. They don’t have to loop the garter around their ears anymore as it goes directly to the button!
Actress Heart Evangelista is known to be a true “crazy rich Asian” who paints on Birkin bags and flaunts the most expensive designer clothing pieces. She upcycled some designer ribbons from previous purchases to line her face masks — very on-brand. Heart also shared her upcycled creations by sending some to fans.

You don’t even have to utter, “I solemnly swear that I am up to no good” to have access to the Marauder’s map. All you have to do is breathe – each time you exhale, more of the map will be revealed. This artist did a very creative way of embracing the new normal: by making Muggles feel like they’re Wizards too.
While other countries are still using surgical masks, Pinays have been sporting terno masks and headbands! Because Pinays are extra like that! There are a variety of colors and fun prints to choose from, which will make your next grocery errand OOTD look cuter. LOL! Some even match dresses with them! You can order a set here.
