The act of smearing or even smashing cake on a person’s face during birthdays, weddings, and other celebrations has been around for a while. But is there really an acceptable time to do it? And who would you even smear cake on? Of course, not just anyone, unlike what Alex Gonzaga did to the service crew holding her cake at her birthday party. The viral video of the actress-vlogger suddenly smearing cake icing on the service crew’s forehead had netizens condemning her unprovoked action. Many say that what she did would’ve been more acceptable if she did it to people she had close relationships with, as long as there was consent. But it seemed that even the service crew guy was surprised when he got cake smeared on his face. Yikes.

1. Your S.O.

Your partner might find it cute and even smear some back on you. Keyword: might.

2. Your parents

Maybe you want to thank them for giving birth to you and raising you? Although that’s a weird way to show your gratitude . . .

3. Your siblings

Relive old sibling fights from your childhood days with a cake smear on the face. Just be ready to get some cake on yourself, too.

4. Your BFF

Hopefully, your friendship is strong enough that you won’t go from “best friends forever” to “friendship over” because you smeared their face with cake . . .

5. Your other close friends

Just in case you want to get your cake smeared on a lot of people, I guess . . . ?

Before you think about smearing cake on someone else’s face, ask yourself if you’d want it to be done to you. If your answer is no, don’t do it to anyone! Because. first of all, it’s a waste of cake — of food! Even if you aren’t fond of sweets, some of your guests have probably been looking forward to eating cake. Even if you just smear only a part of the cake, you’re still touching the food with your bare hands that might have held who knows what (like your phone, which is full of germs). Urgh.
