A Win for Adulting: The Philippine Postal ID *Finally* Makes a Comeback This Week

Oct 14, 2024   •   Meryl Medel

Pinoys, rejoice! After over a year since the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) suspended new applications for it, the Philippine Postal ID is making its comeback this week. Here’s everything you need to know:

Last updated 15 October 2024, 1:00 PM

The Postal ID returns on October 15

As one of the most accessible valid government IDs, the Postal ID was a go-to ID for new graduates seeking employment or just regular citizens dealing with bureaucratic offices requiring government-issued identification cards.

So when the issuance of Postal IDs was suspended, many were left struggling to find alternative accepted IDs. Application processing was suspended following the massive fire incident at the Manila Central Post Office last May 2023.

However, last week, the Postal ID Facebook page announced that the issuance of the valid ID will return on 15 October 2024.

How do you apply for the Postal ID?

When applying for a Philippine Postal ID, you need to submit the following requirements:

  • Application form (not yet available)
  • one (1) proof of identity
  • one (1) proof of address
  • Marriage certificate (for married women)

Accepted proofs of identity are any one of the following:

  • Birth Certificate issued by the PSA
  • GSIS or SSS UMID Card
  • Driver’s License
  • Passport

Accepted proof of address are any one of the following:

  • Original and photocopy of barangay clearance
  • Certified True Copy of Lease
  • Certified True Copy of Titles
  • Certified True Copy of Real Estate Tax Receipt
  • Bank statement
  • Credit card statement
  • School billing statement
  • Utility bill (cable, electric, internet, landline, telephone, water)

Can you apply online?

According to the Postal ID Facebook page, there is NO online application. They advise Pinoys to visit the nearest post office to apply for the ID.

How many years is the validity of the Postal ID?

According to its Facebook page, the Postal ID is valid for three years.

How much is the application fee for the Postal ID?

Each application of a Postal ID requires a PHP 550 fee (inclusive of VAT).

Are there any new features for the Postal ID?

As of October last year, the postal office has been looking into adding financial functions to the postal ID, according to an official of the postal office of East Mindanao. However, no formal announcements have been made.
