Filipinos are renowned for their talent on the world stage. From our athletes competing in the upcoming Paris Olympics to the visionary photographers Hannah Morales and Kimberly dela Cruz, who triumphed at the 2023 World Press Photo Contest, there’s no shortage of Pinoy pride. Now, prepare to be dazzled by visual artist Rachel Ngan Dueñas. Already making waves internationally, Dueñas is poised to etch her name in art history with her highly anticipated debut at the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris, France. Check out her remarkable journey!
From the bustling streets of Manila to the City of Lights, Rachel Duenas sets out to make her international debut as an artist at the Louvre in Paris.
This coming October 18-20, 2024, Duenas will be among the selected Filipino artists to showcase their work at the “Carrousel du Louvre,” an esteemed art shopping event known for its vibrant blend of talents and seasoned collectors.
Duenas’ journey to Paris began with a chance encounter at last year’s Paris Fashion Week, where she conducted tea meditations backstage. There, she was able to exchange a conversation with Philippine ambassador Junever Mahilum-West and her delegation, which then led to her showing her work. Impressed by her art, they endorsed her to the organizers of the Louvre’s show, opening a great door of opportunity for Rachel.
The Carrousel du Louvre is more than just an underground mall beneath the iconic museum. Twice a year, collectors and gallerists gather for an art festival where emerging artists from all over the world showcase their work. Under the guidance of Mr. Dhon dela Paz of Kwadro Pintura, an advocate for bringing Filipino artists to the international art scene, Rachel is set to grace the gallery amongst a display of other global talents.
As an art critic has described her work, Rachel strikes a balance between abstract and impressionism. Her style of brushstrokes often evokes a sense of relaxation and joy, and she is often compared to French painter and impressionist Monet.
At the Carrousel du Louvre, she will pay homage to her homeland through artistic renditions that depict the warmth and beauty of the tropical paradise that is the Philippines.
“I want the Parisian audience to see the beauty of art inspired by the tropical flora and fauna of the Philippines, expressed in a distinct impressionist style,” said Duenas.
Duenas’ artistic journey marks the beginning of a blossoming career. Her international debut will unveil a rising artist poised to bring a refreshing new dimension to the art world.
Before her trip to Paris, she will host her fourth solo exhibit and final show in the Philippines at Chef Jessie Rockwell Club in Makati. The exhibit will open on September 7, 2024, and her artworks will be on display until September 30, 2024. In Paris, she will captivate audiences at the “Carrousel du Louvre” from October 18-20, 2024, and at the Kwadro Pintura Gallery from October 19-20, 2024.
