After the historic run of Alas Pilipinas—led by the likes of Bryan Bagunas, Owa Retamar, Marck Espejo, and Josh Ybañez—in the recently concluded 2025 FIVB Men’s World Championship, held right in our home court, there’s been a powerful surge of pride across the country. More than anything, it also proved that our local players can go toe-to-toe with the world’s best, if given the chance and opportunity.
But in a country where women’s volleyball often steals the spotlight, we’re just as excited to watch our local talents shine on the international stage. And with the recent announcement that the Philippines will host the FIVB Women’s World Championship in 2029, that excitement is only just getting started.
I’m not a volleyball expert, just a casual viewer who’s watched these athletes grow, fight, and shine and while the Alas Pilipinas Women’s lineup is already a powerhouse, I believe there are a few more names that deserve recognition. So here are 8 Pinay Volleyball Athletes who, in my opinion, are more than ready to step onto the world stage (if given the chance).
Back-to-back UAAP Best Libero awardee Detdet Pepito is the heart of UST’s defense and a fan-favorite. She brings unmatched energy, hustle, and precision to the libero spot. Her sharp reads, exceptional floor coverage, and growing confidence are making her one of the most promising liberos in the country.
Tall, fast, and versatile. Lacsina is the kind of middle blocker that can run quick sets, slides, and read the play like a book. Her mobility and offensive range makes her a modern volleyball weapon. Her growth in recent years is only just the beginning.
Arado is a defensive machine whose relentless energy and fearless pursuit of every ball has redefined what it means to play libero in the Philippines. Her speed, reaction time, and court command put her in the same conversation as elite liberos in Asia and beyond.
An explosive outside hitter with US NCAA and international training under her belt, Van Sickle brings intensity, athleticism, and smart decision-making to the court. Her adaptability and firepower make her a natural fit for high-level competition.
Silent but deadly on the court, Jazareno has shown time and again her world-class discipline and reliability as a libero. Whether in the collegiate or pro level, her control, calm under pressure, and textbook technique are everything you’d want on the FIVB stage.
With Filipino‑American roots, Phillips brings international exposure and athleticism to the local game. Her blocking timing, offensive variety, and court presence are powerful assets that have helped her become one of the PVL’s most consistent middles.
A crowd favorite for a reason. Galanza’s composure, court awareness, and offensive firepower have made her one of the most consistent outside hitters in the local scene. She’s not just skilled, she’s clutch. A player any team would want in a do-or-die match.
Young, tall, and with tremendous upside, Laput is one of the most exciting prospects in Philippine volleyball today. Her raw power, athletic build, and continuous improvement hint at a future international star in the making.
The 2025 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship gave us more than highlights, it gave us stories. Stories of struggle, wins, and passion. And for our national men’s team, it was about making it together at home.
Now, it’s the women’s turn. These athletes have long carried the torch of volleyball excellence in the country. With the right support, training, and exposure. They’re more than ready to raise the flag on the world stage.
With the crowd’s roar still echoing—whether you were at the arena or streaming the games at home via PLDT Home Fiber Unli All Plan 1399—one thing’s clear: The next chapter of Philippine volleyball could belong to these Pinay athletes.
