Filipinos are some of the most active social media users on the planet. Memes, the hottest gossip, trending videos, you name it, they’re posting about it! Pinoys spend so much time online, which has created a slew of habits that one may perceive as “tacky.” Redditors of r/Philippines had a discussion about it, and the responses were spot on. Can you relate to some of them?
Don’t get me wrong, getting insurance is a good thing. But as this Reddit user pointed out, some so-called financial advisors use tragedy or grief to hype up their offers and appeal to potential clients. Maybe focusing on the benefits of getting insurance sounds better?
Legend has it online entrepreneurs will suffer bad luck once they post the prices of their products. Just kidding! But seriously, isn’t it better to post the costs of your items for faster transactions? It will also help separate sure customers from those who are just asking.
We get it. You love posting your life online, and that’s fine. Live your life how you want it. However, it’s also important to remember that there’s a thing called internet addiction, and it’s not good. There’s more to life aside from likes, followers, and entertaining videos, folks.
Whether your intentions were genuine or not, it’s still distasteful to share pictures on social media of babies with physical disabilities. Moreso if the posts have superficial statements. Remember: respect doesn’t only apply to your household, office, or school — you should practice it in your online posts, too.
Some parents love their kids so much that they make social media accounts for them. They also create fun or playful posts on behalf of the child! Sadly, some parents don’t realize too much internet exposure can be dangerous for kids. Adults should be responsible with every kid-related content they share online, given sexual predators are lurking. It won’t hurt to think twice before hitting that post button.
A modern Pinoy internet classic! Although it’s okay to feel happy whenever a Filipino thrives abroad, some praise the person as if they were part of their success. Let’s also not forget those Pinoys who love celebrating someone despite the tiniest bit of Filipino heritage. It feels like we’re so eager for that validation.
As funny as it may sound, some people treat their social media accounts like a diary. It’s not to say you shouldn’t express what you feel, okay? But oversharing about personal or sensitive conflicts is a sure way to lure little Mariteses. For sure, you don’t want to be the name on everyone’s lips. If you have a problem with someone, message them privately and talk things out.
“Edi ikaw na matalino!”
Sounds familiar? Some Filipinos love smart shaming. These smart shamers feel like they can do no wrong, and any contradicting opinion qualifies as bashing. Imagine having a toxic mindset like that. Would it get you anywhere? It depends on who you ask.
