Camella Hells? The Internet Can’t Stop Posting Memes About *That* Chocolate Hills Resort

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’re probably up to date with this week’s biggest news: Captain’s Peak Garden and Resort, a resort built in the middle of Chocolate Hills in Bohol. While half of the Internet went livid after learning about the resort’s existence, the other half reacted with hilarious memes.
If it’s been a while since you’ve seen this green bill, you might be shocked by its update. Look closer, that looks like a mini resort!
Juan Ponce Enrile’s immortality memes might be the most hilarious Pinoy joke, but memes of Senator Cynthia Villar and her family’s Camella Homes come a close second. After all, the Chocolate Hills resort isn’t the first man-made structure built while completely disregarding nature.
Yikes. That resort might’ve given all these businessmen ideas. On a serious note, this is why the Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) needs to implement stricter measures for protecting our natural wonders.
What came first? The resort or the subdivision? And does it matter?
They say the (chocolate) hills have eyes. They’ve probably been alarmed by the development for so long.
The resort in Sagbayan, Bohol recently drew flak for being built in the middle of the Chocolate Hills, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Captain’s Peak started its operations in 2018 but, as of March 13, 2024, has been ordered to close temporarily.
DENR has been monitoring the resort since late 2023 and issued it a Notice of Violation in January 2024 for operating without an Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC).
