Claudio Sanchez wrote this brilliant love song as an apology to his then girlfriend after they had broken up. The song is filled with so much passion and emotion which speaks volumes about how good of a songwriter Claudio Sanchez is when he’s inspired. The song must’ve worked on the girl–she’s now his wife. Slick move, Claudio!
Forty years after its release, Neil Diamond revealed that his smash hit wasn’t about a lady he had loved but rather about a picture he was struck by on a magazine. The picture was that of a little girl riding a pony. He said that her sweet innocence really stuck with him.
The acoustic solo ballad was written entirely by Death Cab frontman, Ben Gibbard. At age 29, he had really never lost anyone special but regardless he began to obsess over the certainty of death and the uncertainty of the afterlife. The song was an ode to express his love for the people in his life while they’re still around.
Eric Clapton wrote this song in 1976 while waiting for his girlfriend Pattie (also future wife) to get ready for a Buddy Holly party that none other than Paul McCartney was throwing. Pattie was, coincidentally, also the ex-wife of George Harrison. She said that to have inspired both Clapton and Harrison to make songs about her was extremely flattering. She says that Wonderful Tonight was a reminder of everything good in her relationship with Clapton.
