From our favorite teachers to doctors and delivery men, we meet many real-life heroes in our day-to-day lives. They may not have striking outfits or capes; they don’t even need a cool hideout like Batman! And we don’t have to look too far to find these heroes. Sometimes, they’re right at home — just look at your mom. Being a mom isn’t an easy feat and motherhood is often just as tough (maybe even tougher) than fighting the biggest and meanest villains. Don’t believe us? Here are the receipts:
Superheroes always plan out their biggest moves. They learn about their nemesis’ strengths, weaknesses, and the best way to defeat them. Moms pretty much do the same thing, but instead of learning how to defeat a supervillain, she does everything she can to learn about how she can better help us navigate life and adulting. Mom makes sure she learns about what we’re into: our current hobbies, who we’re hanging out with, our favorite food. She’s always willing to learn something new to make us happy, even if it’s a challenging dish like this Paella Negra Stuffed in Squid. Mastering the perfect paella recipe is already a challenge but following extra steps to present it better? Moms will always go the extra mile.
Moms are selfless and love us unconditionally. Even when the whole family is sick, she still gets up earlier than usual to prepare meals for all members, like this hearty bowl of Cream of Wild Mushroom and Oyster Soup. It’s the best when you’re sick; each bite feels like a warm hug. And when mom prepares it, it’s like she’s extending her hugs to you too. Sure, medicine and lots of rest will help you recover faster, but there’s nothing more comforting than the fact that mom will be there to take care of you.
Comic book superheroes aren’t the only ones with killer instincts. Mom instinct is a real thing – even if you don’t tell her you’re hurting, she knows right away. She’ll know how to cheer you up, even if it’s as small as preparing your favorite dish. When she knows you’ve got a day of deadlines and you’re too stressed to join meals, she’ll sneak in and bring you a filling dish like this Fried Rice with Hoisin Sauce packed with flavor using Lee Kum Kee’s Panda Brand Oyster Flavored Sauce and Premium Soy Sauce.
Mom may not be able to lift heavy trucks and move buildings as your favorite superhero can, but she’s built like an iron wall. Whether it’s carrying heavy groceries or simply having a shoulder to cry on, moms are the strongest. She may not show that she’s hurting or she’s tired most of the time, but make sure to always cheer her up! Prepare her a special meal on mom’s day and try your hands at making this Mango Pineapple Chicken. It’s savory and sweet and made better with green bell peppers for some crunch and texture – a dish made with love that would make mom smile.
Even as kids, we’ve always known that mom can do anything. Being a mom is no joke and she always manages to handle everything all at once. She’s the best multitasker! Even when she’s busy handling tasks for the family, like paying bills and doing chores, she can still whip up a good meal, like this Barbecue Pork Ribs with Hoisin Sauce recipe. It’s packed with different flavors that perfectly blend well together: sweetness from the rice vinegar, saltiness from the Worcestershire sauce, and umami from the Hoisin sauce – there might be a lot going on but it’s a guaranteed party in your mouth.
Heroes always want their people to be protected and this is how moms think too: she will always save the day. The last thing moms would want to see is their child hurting — they will always try to protect you no matter what. When you’re hurt, she would cheer you up by serving a dish like a Turkey Wrap with Oyster Flavored Sauce that would make you feel her love and protection. Mom’s constant reminders can be mistaken as nagging as she’s constantly reminding you to take care and all the other little things, but this is just her way of saying she loves you.
Remember how she made memorizing the multiplication table so simple? From teaching you tricks around the house to passing down heirloom recipes that initially intimidated you, mom knows how to make anything complicated simple. Or she knows how to explain it in a way that won’t make you back out. A Vietnamese Salmon-and-Mango Spring Roll recipe sounds intimidating but when you make it with mom, you’ll find out that whipping up the dish can be a fun bonding experience.
When something’s wrong, who do you call? If you were a comic book character, it would be your local friendly superhero, but in real life, it’s probably mom. She’s always reassuring, even in the scariest times, and her support alone can make you feel braver and ready to face whatever life would throw at you. Moms make us look forward to the day and all its challenges with amazing breakfast dishes like this Chicken Mushroom and Tomato Omelet.
