It’s SB19 comeback szn and our favorite boys, Pablo, Stell, Josh, Ken, and Justin, just dropped their new single “What?” fresh off their upcoming album Get In The Zone. The song was released via Sony Music Philippines and had an accompanying music video that blew the socks off of their fans online. “The new music era not only elevates their sense of creative aptitude and sonic ambition but also uncovers their range and discipline as thespians of their own craft,” says Sony Music Philippines.
With “What?” we see SB19 transcend the dance-pop tunes we’ve seen them do well before and explore darker themes through large-scale MV sets, on-fire rapping, and solid lyricism. But what else do you need to know about the boys’ latest single?
P-pop sensations SB19 are back with their new music “What?” Bolder, fiercer, and more powerful than before, the group is gearing for global domination. The music video is an entirely new cinematic universe where the boys show off new sides to themselves. Many were also impressed with the scale of production, which let’s admit, is something that is unusual with local MVs. This just goes to show that SB19 is a cut above the rest and they won’t release anything that isn’t well-produced or well-thought-of.
“The release of the song comes with a visual accompaniment that marks a triumphant return to the band’s groundbreaking aesthetic and empowering message,” says Sony Music Philippines. “The music video of ‘What?’ shows SB19 in battle mode as they claim freedom in a fictional, post-apocalyptic war zone, and exude an aura of power and longevity to go along with its cinematic appeal.”
What? feels like a necessary and valiant evolution of the SB19 sound and visual. It seems like they are picking the best bits of pop music practices, all for the better! I’m impressed and happy to see this level of bravery. Huhu.

SB19’s very own Pablo (who previously went by the stage name “Sejun”) is also credited as one of the songwriters and producers of “What?” He reveals that the track proves that they’re “not just here to play games or act cool.”
Pablo acknowledges that there are still those who doubt what the group has to offer and so the SB19 new music “What?” is a reminder of the importance of self-love and empowerment. “Each of us has our own flag. We should be proud of it and raise it as much as we can. As SB19 and as individuals, we know that we’re not the best at everything, but that shouldn’t stop us from what we want to achieve.”

“The song ‘What?’ is really different from what we have done before,” Pablo continues in the statement. “This one has a more aggressive take to it compared to our previous songs, so I really had to force out the ‘oomph’ in the voices of the members.”
The rapper shared that the group was meticulous with the recordings and would sometimes stay up until the morning to record until they were satisfied.

What’s even more amazing than SB19’s comeback and the music video is their fans’ dedication to the group. Officially named A’Tin, the fandom (and even non-fans, TBH), flocked over YouTube to drop lovely comments and watch the music video on repeat. As of writing, “What?” Official MV has 886k views 15 hours after it was premiered. It’s also currently sitting on the #2 on YouTube’s trending list. Looks like SB19 is gearing for 1M views on the first 24 hours of posting. The group’s other videos, “Alab” and “Go Up,” currently have 9M and 8.8M views.

CONGRATULATIONS SB19 💙 #SB19WHATComeback— Kristy Cho (@kristypataa) March 9, 2021
I really love this scene. It’s like that they will keep on going even though the people are going on the other way. Just like what Pablo said, “Change doesn’t happen unless you truly WANT it.”@SB19Official #SB19#SB19WHATMVOutNow pic.twitter.com/8bvczNnbN4

You can just imagine how A’Tin felt when the jaw-dropping music video premiered. It’s ground-breaking and revolutionary — quite literally. You can see the boys kicking up dust, looking like rightful leaders to a revolution. One A’Tin even commented how she had her mouth open the entire time watching the music video.
#BTS ON & @SB19Official WHAT has the most powerful and iconic dance break for me— Both choreography is intense and amazing, they all freakin slayed it. Believe me when I say this, SB19 will also dominate the world like their idols❤#SB19WHATMVoutnow #SB19 #SB19WHATComeback pic.twitter.com/LUVZQiQ6TU

One part of the music video that caught everyone’s attention was that fire dance break mid-song. Folks were reminded of South Korean global superstars BTS and how impressive it is that a local act could “freakin slay” something similar. It’s almost a foreshadowing of how SB19 might one day dominate the world (which isn’t surprising since they’re constantly rising on Billboard and other charts).
Josh’s tone was one of the things I was really shocked the most!!!!! His voice was higher (which I think he’s more comfortable rapping in) and it suits him very well! 😭 RAPPER JC Y’ALL!!!!!!!@SB19Official #SB19 #SB19WHATMVoutnow pic.twitter.com/tgzoJCde2f

The production was great but do you know what’s even greater? The boys slaying their individual fits. Pablo in his all-black outfit with those platinum streaks in his hair, Josh successfully combining dapper and dangerous, Ken sitting on that throne wearing a half-skirt, Justin in sparkly kimono, blindfold, and a ponytail, and finally, Stell looking like a modern-day Romeo. Whoever your bias is, prepare to be bias-wrecked by all of them.
The group was scheduled to do a virtual music launch on the same night of the music video release but unfortunately, they had to postpone since the boys were exposed to a COVID-positive patient. While wishing them well, A’Tin can stay tuned on announcements for the new launch date. A’Tin can also wait for the award-winning group’s yet-to-be-revealed but highly anticipated follow-up to their debut album, Get In The Zone.
