Fate has a funny way of working itself out and reuniting people unexpectedly. Case in point: Shin Seung-ho, a former bodyguard, ended up sharing the big screen with one of the people he used to guard.
In an online forum, Korean netizens found a fun fact about actor Shin Seung-ho, best known for his role as the Crown Prince in Netflix’s fantasy-romance Alchemy of Souls.
Before starting his acting career and becoming as popular as he is now, Seung-ho was a soccer athlete, with over a decade of experience in the sport. But after quitting the sport, he started taking odd jobs to support himself, and in 2016, he became a part-time security guard at a department store.
During one of his shifts, he was assigned as part of the security detail following girl group Red Velvet. The group was holding a fan signing event to promote their hit track “Russian Roulette” in the very department store where Seung-ho worked.
Years later, in 2021, Seung-ho successfully debuted as an actor in the web drama A-Teen. He was then confirmed as part of the cast in the heartwarming film Double Patty, where he starred with none other than Irene of Red Velvet. Yup, the same girl group he served as security detail before, however brief.
The film served as the big-screen debut of both Shin Seung-ho and Irene. But it was well-received for an indie movie with relatively new actors.
In a promotional interview for the film, Shin Seung-ho revealed that he didn’t actually make the connection immediately. It took a few days before he remembered that his co-star Irene was the same star he watched over briefly as a bodyguard.
