Kaya Mo Yan! : Songs That Will Help You Start Your Week Right

Moments from Volleyfriends UAAP Volleyball Kick Off SHAD

‘Tis the season to be jolly!

…Or not. While many are already feeling the Christmas cheer, some of you may not be in the mood to celebrate just yet. We all go through rough patches in life, after all. You may be a student struggling to pass a subject or complete a thesis, an employee striving to meet deadlines or targets, a social media lurker who felt bad about the political posts last week, or maybe life is simply not giving you wins to help you feel good.

The only thing we can say is this: you can do it! And hey, we’re not the only ones who believe in you–Florence and the Machine, Gym Class Heroes, Shawn Mendes and more also have so much faith in you, that they’ve made songs about it!

Listen up and allow them to remind you that this rough patch is but temporary, and that you’ve got this, man. YOU’VE GOT THIS.

1. The Fighter – Gym Class Heroes feat. Ryan Tedder

If you fall pick yourself up off the floor (get up)

And when your bones can’t take no more

Just remember what you’re here for

Sports is always a good metaphor for life, and this song is a perfect illustration of that. Likening life to boxing, Gym Class Heroes and Ryan Tedder sing about giving it your best shot because it ain’t over ‘til it’s over. Some people may be waiting to see you fall, but, hey, you’re the man. Heck, you’re the fighter!

2. Shake It Out – Florence and the Machine

It’s hard to dance with a devil on your back

So shake him off, oh whoa

Maybe it’s a sad past that’s haunting you and keeping you from moving forward. Take a cue from Florence and the Machine and shake it off. With a lighter baggage, you can move forward at a more fluid pace. Granted, it will not be easy, but it will be so worth it.

3. Anything – Hedley

A thousand disbelievers couldn’t keep me on the ground

I’ve invented a momentum that’ll never slow me down

Naysayers bringing you down? Well, to quote a line from this song, eff that. Surround yourself with people who believe in you. And believe us when we tell you that you don’t even need so many–a few loved ones who fiercely support you will be enough to counter the bad vibes brought about by a hundred thousand disbelievers talking you down.

4. Natasha Bedingfield – Unwritten

Drench yourself in words unspoken

Live your life with arms wide open

Today is where your book begins

The rest is still unwritten

If your plans aren’t panning out just yet, don’t fret. Keep going, keep trying. It’s okay to make mistakes along the way – that’s how you learn after all. Don’t limit yourself to what’s right before you, when there’s much more to explore up ahead.
