So the official trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home just dropped and boy, did it give us a lot to unpack. It was only yesterday when fans were thrown for a loop after someone leaked the trailer online (it wasn’t Tom Holland, okay?). Sony had to work double-time to wipe any trace or evidence on the internet and convince people it was just a low-quality fever dream. But the rest of the world who weren’t tainted by the leak didn’t have to wait long for the actual official Spider-Man trailer:
Marvel fans are quaking with excitement since details about this third installment of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man have more or less been kept under wraps. Revealing everything takes the fun out of surprises, Marvel says. But now that the trailer is officially up, it’s an understatement to say everyone’s minds are blown.

Spider-Man: No Way Home picks up where Spider-Man: Far From Home left our jaws hanging — Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) on the jumbotron announcing that Peter Parker is indeed Spider-Man. Now everyone knows, and Peter’s life is a disaster. He enlists Doctor Strange’s (Benedict Cumberbatch) help to bring things back to the way they were. Doctor Strange casts a spell where everyone is supposed to forget Peter is Spider-Man but tampering with space and time has its consequences and now Peter is plunged into a multiverse that’s more than he bargained for.
Wong: Strange, the spell is too dangerous. Don’t.

Leave it to Wong to be the wisest person in the room but when the world needs him the most… he leaves said room. In the trailer, Wong warns Doctor Strange that casting a spell might have negative consequences before proceeding to leave for who knows where. Just like he did in Avengers: Infinity War when he claimed the “sanctum is unguarded.” Now fans are clowning him for it.

Seriously though, why is he always leaving?

Surprise! We’re guessing everyone had collective chills when Alfred Molina emerged, reprising his role as the villain from Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man 2. He’s back after 17 years to wreak havoc and make Peter’s life miserable. Perfect, exactly what we wanted him to do as a star villain. The question is, which Peter?

In the trailer, Doc Ock looks at someone off-screen and says “Hello, Peter,” which leads everyone to believe that…

Now that we have solid proof from the official trailer that villains of old will really reappear, the internet is more than convinced that previous Spider-Man actors will be part of the movie too. The rumor mill has been churning for months now, although nothing is explicitly confirmed. But fans believe that Doc Ock was talking to the Spider-Man he knew — Tobey Maguire. He’s not going to recognize Tom Holland’s Spider-Man now, would he? Tobey has to show his face for maximum nostalgia and the grand scheme of multiverse things. And also for old time’s sake because 2000s fans will really like that.
And if Tobey is in there then…

Everyone’s equally excited for Andrew Garfield’s expected appearance (again, no actual sources say that other Spider-Men will be in the movie). People can’t help but get excited to see him act alongside his other versions and have them tease him for losing Gwen Stacey (ouch).

Since Marvel robbed us of the chance to see Tobey, Andrew, and Tom in one epic trailer, the internet went ahead and created scenarios for the three Spider-Men meeting each other. Worlds collide!

Super-sleuths also seem to have noticed that Jamie Foxx’s Electro from Andrew Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 must be in the Spider-Man trailer too. If the lightning streaks and explosions are anything to go by. The trailer then cuts to a Green Goblin Pumpkin Bomb thrown on a bridge with his matching signature laugh we hear in the background. Looks like Willem Dafoe is coming to reprise his role and we’re getting literal goosebumps now! To put the icing on top of an already epic trailer, fans are convinced the trailer teased the appearance of Sandman and Lizard too. The more the merrier, right?
what i like about this movie is people who are only exclusively fans of tobey or andrew’s spiderman will most likely enjoy this movie since it has their old villains #SpiderManNoWayHomeTrailer pic.twitter.com/bcXjJGE8t7

Whew! Take a breather and absorb all that in. It looks like Spider-Man: No Way Home is going to be one heck of a movie that all fans — regardless of which Spider-Man version you like — will enjoy. And this is just the first trailer! Sony and Marvel better not disappoint and give fans what they want for the next trailer release. That is, a Spider-Man clip showing Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire chilling after defeating all the villains. Watch everyone cry in theaters on December 2021.
