You Really Have to Meet Spoken Word Poet Sierra DeMulder

5. She, as we all should, makes a stand for the women who are victims of abuse.

Paper Dolls

“But know this: the person who did this to you is broken, not you.”

6. She cares so much about how the LGBTQ+ community is perceived and represented that she wrote a poem inspired by the song “You’re So Gay”.

Dear Katy Perry

“Katy, it’s official: if someone wrote a song called You’re So Jewish or I Kissed a Black Man no red carpet would bloom before them.”

7. She strips her soul naked with every personal poem, and she makes sure we feel it.

Uninhabitable

“He tells me he isn’t ashamed of what he did, or where he’s been, or what he put my mother through, but I think he means he doesn’t allow himself the luxury of forgetting.”

8. And lastly, this poem. Trust me. You need this today.

Today Means Amen

“This moment is your permission slip to finally open that love letter you’ve been hiding from yourself.”

Sierra DeMulder, who’s also one of the founders of Button Poetry
( https://www.youtube.com/user/ButtonPoetry ), will be performing at a one-night-only show together with the author of this article, Juan Miguel Severo, and the rest of Words Anonymous on October 9, Sunday, at the Power Mac Center Spotlight.
