Earlier today, Squid Game actor Lee Jung-jae won Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series at the SAG Awards.
The actor looked overwhelmed as he received his award, admitting that he prepared a speech in case he won, but he doesn’t think he’d be able to read it. “Thank you so much to the global audience for all of your love for Squid Game,” he said in Korean, “and thank you Squid Game team!”

A few minutes after Lee Jung-jae accepted his award, actress Jung Ho-yeon looked so surprised to receive her first ever SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series.
“I have sat many times watching you on the big screen dreaming of one day becoming an actor. I just want to say thank you so much,” the actress says in Korean while crying tears of joy. She continues in English: “Thank you. [You] make me dream and open the door for me. And I love you, my Squid Game crew!” This is a huge achievement for Jung Ho-yeon especially, as Squid Game is her first foray into acting.
The series they were nominated for is entirely in Korean, and both actors were up against well-established actors in the western entertainment industry, including Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston, Brian Cox, and Kieran Culkin.
In addition to the two actors’ wins, the series also received Outstanding Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Television Series from the SAG Awards.
These historic wins just prove what Parasite director Bong Joon-ho said two years ago during the Oscars: “Once you overcome the one-inch tall barrier of subtitles, you will be introduced to so many more amazing films.” Because you can find good stories all over the world in every language. You just need to overcome that one-inch tall barrier of subtitles, just like you did with Parasite and Squid Game.
In January, actor O Yeong-su (Player #001) also won a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor, Television. The Squid Game team is also awaiting the results of several more nominations from various institutions, including Golden Reel Awards, Critics’ Choice Television Awards, and Producers Guild of America Awards.
A second season has also been confirmed to be in the works.
Say bye to February and start off March with some good vibes from the Squid Game fam:
