Being a public personality comes with great power and even greater responsibility. While you’re free to say whatever pops into your head — good or bad — you’re not immune from receiving opinions from the other side. That’s what happened to Stella Salle. An up-and-coming content creator, she recently faced backlash for her posts about Stell of SB19. Here’s everything you need to know:
Content creator Stella Salle is known for her funny videos on TikTok. She was also appointed as Colourette Cosmetics’ ambassador, which is why many were baffled and offended after seeing her re-shared Facebook post featuring old photos of SB19 member Stell with the caption “Panget.”
After getting negative reactions on her first post, Stella doubled down in another Facebook post, saying, “Pero totoo naman talaga di’ba, panget talaga siya, natatakot lang kayo magsalita.”
At one point, Stella also called those offended as ‘OA.’
These Facebook posts are now all deleted.
A’TIN, SB19’s fandom, called the attention of Nina Ellaine Dizon, the owner and founder of Colourette Cosmetics. Fans pointed out that Stella’s actions were offensive and that she should be held accountable, especially as a brand ambassador.
The beauty brand issued a statement on social media, announcing they’re parting ways with Stella.
“Due to recent events with one of our ambassadors, Colourette takes a firm stand against bullying and shaming, and we are disengaging from Stella.”
Nina, who has personally experienced scrutiny for her appearance, emphasized that Colourette Cosmetics remains a brand that celebrates everyone’s beauty.
People lauded Nina for swiftly taking action on the incident and her commitment to inclusivity.
“And this is why I will always be a Colourette girl!” one Facebook user commented.
Some even bought Colourette products as a thank you to Nina.
Following the backlash she received, Stella took to social media to apologize to Stell and her supporters. As someone who has also suffered bullying, she recognizes the damage caused by her inappropriate posts.
“Nangangako po akong hindi na ito mauulit at gagamitin ko po ito bilang leksyon upang mas ayusin pa ang mga content na aking pinopost. Bigyan n’yo po sana ako ng pangalawang pagkakataon para po ma-improve ko po ang sarili ko,” the content creator said.
Given everything that has happened, the key takeaway is that it doesn’t hurt to be kind. Even though Stella’s actions were inappropriate, it’s still not right to mock her appearance or sexual identity. Conversely, this is a stark reminder that whatever you say matters, regardless of whether you’re a celebrity or not.
Life’s tough as it is, and if your idea of fun is throwing insults at a person’s appearance — somebody who’s just being themselves — is it worth ditching compassion for cheap laughs?
