Summer in the PH: ‘Ang Init’ Memes We Can All Relate To

May 7, 2020   •   Ina Louise Manto

Ah, summer in the Philippines. Where your essentials are sleeveless tops, shorts, a pamaypay, and cold drinks. Want to sweat without exercising? Just simply sit down and beads of swear will form on your forehead; you don’t even have to do anything! Check some of the funniest “ang init” memes that we can all relate to.

Understatement of the year: It is HOT

Gone are the days when you could just sleep in and wake up in the afternoon. If you do that now, you’ll probably end up in a puddle of your own sweat, which is never fun. Unless you run the aircon all day, but your mom wouldn’t allow that, right?

IT’S A HOT ONE. 🥵

Today, May 4, the @dost_pagasa recorded a heat index of 41 degrees Celsius. pic.twitter.com/ahyF6TdL6C

— Inquirer (@inquirerdotnet) May 4, 2020

On May 4th, we experienced one of the hottest days thus far, with a heat index of 41 degrees Celsius in Metro Manila. Other provinces have it bad too. In Occidental Mindoro, they experienced a whopping 55 degrees Celsius on April 26. Dagupan also reached the 50 degrees mark, after experiencing a heat index of 51.7 degrees Celsius on April 9.

Electric fans are best friends… or not

The summer staple: electric fans. But when the heat is so bad, the electric fans feel more like hairdryers because it just blows heat in your face.

Water or sweat?

Gahd, Philippines feels like hell. Its so hot the electric fan is breathing fire 😂😭 pic.twitter.com/DGXSYiBk8c

When you take a shower to fight off the heat but start sweating the moment you step out… Or even worse: you start sweating as you dry yourself off. There’s no escaping this heat, huh?

Even pets aren’t having it

Even this fluff ball cannot tolerate the heat anymore. Pets are getting smarter and learning how to adjust the electric fan by themselves! If you have pets, don’t forget to keep them hydrated. Don’t leave them outside because just like this baby, they feel the heat too. You don’t want them to suffer, right?

The free aircon

One thing I miss about the office: AIRCON! APAKABANAS!!!

— Buffy™ (@buffydumpty) May 5, 2020

Complaining about the winter-like temperature in the office is a distant memory now. There’s a long list of things we miss about our offices, but on top of that list is the free aircon. We can’t even go to cafes or malls para magpalamig. Swear, once we’re back in the office, we’ll never take the free unli aircon for granted again.

Facebook emojis we need

Drink your water! #INIIT

Since many are asking us for a copy of our Heat Index emojis, here they are: Orange (Extreme Caution) and Red (Danger). As of this posting, we’re feeling the red one.

Facebook recently added the Care emoji to show its support for its users amid the pandemic. Several edits have been done, and we might need these two ASAP. They’re just too accurate. TBH, they can replace the angry emoji. Angry while sweating? Yes, that’s more accurate.

Free trial in hell

ang init. Is this some kind of free trial in hell.

— UPCAT QUESTIONS (@UPCATQuestion) May 5, 2020

me right now because ang init po. Impyerno is waving 👋🏻 pic.twitter.com/bMqDUMp7KA

— dustin (@d_n1a) May 5, 2020

what if the temperature today is just a free trial of what it’s like in hell bcs they know that we’re all going 2 hell 😳

— ᵏᵃᵗ ★彡 (@oikskawa) May 5, 2020

If you factor in this weather with everything that’s going on in the country right now — we can all agree that this is the Bad Place. If this is a free trial then I’m never signing up for a subscription. Bye, Felicia!

Stay hydrated!

And the best thing we can do to fight off this heat is to drink lots of water, on top of using the electric fan round-the-clock. High temperatures can lead to heat exhaustion or even heat stroke, and prevention is better than cure. If you or a family member experiences these symptoms, immediately call for help. But for now, as what Mimiyuuuh said, “drink your water bitch!”
