Summertime is tailor made for the box office—people have all that time to take in a flick or two.
From this April all the way until the first quarter of August, a bunch of great films are making their big screen debuts. Summer 2016 will be quite a season of comedies, superhero movies, or animation. So save the dates (and bring a date), these are the hits coming to theatres near you:
For anyone who has seen the original Jungle Book movie, this will be a treat. The rumor mill reports that the film will be a total remake with no change in the plot, except that it will use more elements from the book, making for a darker, eerier vibe. Mowgli, an orphan kid who is raised in the jungle by a bear, a black panther and a pack of wolves takes us all through a jungle of wonders and fears.
The heads of state interfere with the activities of the Avengers when they feel that they are abusing their power. Insulted by the government’s decision to label him a vigilante, Captain America decides to defy the political interference. This fuels a conflict between former allies Captain America and Iron Man, so get ready for an epic clash.
Just when the Radners thought they were finally going be able to sell their house and move to the suburbs, a sorority that’s even more out of control than Teddy’s fraternity moves in next door. With nobody else to turn to but their old nemesis Teddy, the Radners seek his help to dismantle the rowdy sorority. With Chloe Moretz, Selena Gomez, Dave Franco and Zac Efron sharing the same screen, try your best not to drool.
The world’s first ever mutant, Apocalypse, has awakened after thousands of years. He amasses the power of many other mutants, making him immortal and invincible. Many refer to him as a God, with many names such as Krishna and Yahweh. He recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disillusioned Magneto, so that he can start cleansing the world. Raven and Professor X must lead a team of young X-Men in order to stop Apocalypse from, well, bringing on the apocalypse. This is guaranteed to be an absolute joyride—just check out the cast!
Dory is back and she’s as forgetful as ever. This heart-warming tale is about Dory reconnecting with her mother—a theme that’s sure to get every parent in the cinema misty-eyed.
The aliens are back…and they’re pissed. The humans might have a better defense system than before thanks to recovered alien technology, but nothing can prepare them for what the aliens have in store for them this time around. The fate of mankind lies in the hands of a few brave men and women.
Sausage Party is a hilariously twisted comedy about a sausage that leads a group of supermarket products on a quest to be chosen. As they go along, they discover the true meaning of their existence. Definitely worth catching in the cinemas, as it’s also the first ever CGI animated movie to receive an R rating.
A secret government agency recruits a bunch of supervillains to do several black ops missions. In exchange for their compliance, they are promised to be freed from prison and granted clemency. It’s one of the first superhero movies that actually portray the bad guys as the protagonists—not to mention taking on a Batman comic story arc that’s never been seen on the silver screen. Raise your hand if you’re stoked to meet Daddy’s Little Monster!
