Sweet and Hilarious: Remembering Chokoleit Through 8 Funny Quips

Mar 12, 2019   •   Tim Henares

After a performance in Abra nobody knew would be his last, the 48-year old comedian we’ve come to know and love as Chokoleit has passed away of a heart attack.

Often transgressive and self-deprecating, Chokoleit’s comedy style has always been an acquired taste for most people, as it ran the gamut of slapstick, insults, impressions, and yes, offensive humor. Nonetheless, his lengthy career in show business proves that he’s one of the best at what he does, and we will miss his comedic stylings. Here are just 8 of the funniest bits we’ve ever seen him take part in.

Mas maganda akong panoorin sa personal

While guesting in 2009 on Wowowee, Chokoleit is being asked what sets him apart from the other Laffline comedians.

The Highlight:

A hallmark of Chokoleit’s style of comedy has always been his self-deprecation, and this is on highlight here.

Chokoleit’s Ms. Universe Skit

Chokoleit has a bit where he does impressions of Ms. Universe candidates in his own inimitable way. Often wildly politically incorrect, his humor never fails to push the boundaries, as has always been his approach.

The Highlight:

The Ms. Italy bit that begins at 5:25 is such a treat if you remember your spaghetti sauce commercials.

Chokoleit with Wacky Kiray and Negi on GGV

One of Chokoleit’s last appearances was on GGV just a few months ago, where he shot the breeze with Vice Ganda and two other luminaries from the comedy bar circuit. It was a funny, roast-filled romp from start to finish.

The Highlight:

When Negi says that his skin is better than everyone else’s, both other comedians quickly protest. Chokoleit nails the line perfectly.

Chokoleit: Wag kang ano, susko, tumigil ka. Anong skin-skin? Iisa dermatologist natin. Sarado na yung clinic, bukas pa rin ang pores natin.

Chokoleit does a Risa Hontiveros impression

Chokoleit is no slouch at impersonations. This guesting with Boy Abunda proves just that.

The Highlight:

The entire guesting is the highlight. While not exactly the funniest, Chokoleit’s commitment to the impression was undeniable, not to mention his ability to pick up on some of the senator’s smaller tics that made the performance plausible.

The Megastar and the Megascar

Sharon Cuneta and Chokoleit explain their very close friendship.

The Highlight:

We lost it the minute Chokoleit called himself the Megascar.

Where do broken hearts go? Here.

Chokoleit interprets the monster hit song with Vice and Pooh.

The Highlight:

The entire video is a highlight in absurd, surreal comedy. Some would say it’s “pilit,” while others would say it’s pretty damned risky when the easiest way to play jokes while someone is singing is to do it ala Karaoke Masters, which is a formula they all strayed from for this one.

Chokoleit on Funchline’s 16th Anniversary

Dressed to the nines, Chokoleit is on classic insult comedy mode here, clearly riffing from the top of his head for almost twenty minutes straight.

The Highlight:

“Ang pangit ng hitsura pero ang lakas ng kapangyarihan,” is how Chokoleit described a certain body part, garnering the biggest laughs from the audience. When you find out which body part, you might even agree.

Chokoleit + Pokwang

This rapid-fire duo act was a thing to behold. The insults were flying at a fast clip, and for fans of that type of comedy, this was golden.

The Highlight:

From Chokoleit’s “Oo ate, oo ate!” to Pokwang’s “My brother is just a pig,” the way these two exchanged famous movie lines was nothing short of a classic.
