Taylor Swift is Skipping the PH for Her Eras Tour and This is Probably Why

Jun 21, 2023   •   Kyzia Maramara

Unless you’re living under a rock, you probably already know that Taylor Swift just released The Eras Tour international dates, finally revealing that she’s headed for Asia in 2024. She’s slated to have four shows in Tokyo Dome, Japan and three in National Stadium, Singapore. But while Asian Swifties initially screamed their heads off in excitement, some can’t help but feel disappointed that Miss Americana herself is only touring in two Asian countries. Taylor Swift isn’t coming to the Philippines and Filo Swifties didn’t shy from voicing their disappointment on social media.

No Philippines?

Hard pill to swallow: Taylor won’t be coming to our shores anytime soon.

no philippines?!?? pic.twitter.com/7gY0A9ayGS https://t.co/rCL24nEzBz

— Luel (@ItsMarkLuel) June 20, 2023

Why is there no Philippines when the seating capacity in Japan and Singapore is almost the same with the Philippines? https://t.co/BWIidAUM1V pic.twitter.com/fx2g0bSSXT

— paulklore (@paulklore) June 20, 2023

We’re all jealous of Singapore and Japan

We know that Taylor Swift will add more shows in Singapore.

But what will be the most disappointing part is, Singapore gets the credit for it.

Imagine going to the tour & Taylor be like “Thank you for the 6-sold out shows, Singapore”.

No maam, ur fans in did it! https://t.co/eXoz2ZMJAi

— . (@folkloreswifty) June 20, 2023

We won’t even hear her shout “Good evening, Manila!” or “Mahal kita Philippines!” However, since Taylor knows the demand for her shows, she’s more likely to add more dates. Or at least that’s what we’re hoping for.

For every releases Asian swifties have always been the loudest, Taylor is always the most streamed artist in most of Asia, fan events are packed with people. Honestly this is really disappointing

It’s just unfair!

Sobrang unfair. Alam mo bang kami nagbubuhat ng streams mo globally. Kada labas mo ng album laging nagbrebreak ng records dito. Wala kaming pake sa stage. Magdala ka lang ng gitara ayos na. Kami kakanta para sayo. @taylorswift13

WE WANT ERAS TOUR MANILA#nochillphilippines

— Anthony (@anthonytrovela) June 20, 2023

Other Filo Swifties find it unfair that Taylor seemingly ignored the Philippines, especially when we have the Philippine Arena that boasts a 55k seating capacity. “Alam mo bang kami nagbubuhat ng streams mo globally,” said one Swiftie on Twitter. “Kada labas mo ng album laging nagbrebreak ng records dito.”

They’re not wrong. In fact, in 2022, Spotify released data that ranked Quezon City as the top city for Taylor Swift streaming. Filo Swifties even held an Eras Tour mall show complete with impersonators and a crowd of thousands!

It’s going to be a bloodbath for tickets

Asia’s population is 4.5B, and there are 3 shows in Singapore (55k capacity each) and 4 shows in Japan (also 55k capacity each) for The Eras Tour.

How on earth will Asian swifties get these tickets….

— T.m | Timeless (@TMlovesRED) June 20, 2023

To put things in perspective about why Asian Swifties are disappointed, one Twitter user pointed out staggering statistics. There are more than 4.5 billion Asians about to go to war to secure concerts for seven shows in Singapore and Japan combined. Although it’s not like the entire Asian population are Swifties, it’s safe to assume that a huge percentage is. If the six-day sold-out Coldplay concert in Singapore is anything to go by, we’re pretty sure Taylor tickets will be snagged in the first half hour.

Filo Swifties speculate why there’s no PH stop

Taylor WANTED the PH – word from intel said – we didn’t meet the reqts. of the show. It has bn a gr8 frustration of mine 4 all of us that the PH does not have a PROPER national stadium w/n its urban area. These stadiums meet regular hosting requirements – the PH Arena does not. https://t.co/ZhTsIn4bvS

— Martin  (@mart712in) June 21, 2023

One Filo Swifty alleged that the Philippines “did not meet the requirements of the [Eras Tour]” that’s why we don’t get to see Blondie. They alleged that Taylor “wanted” the Philippines but we “do not have a proper national stadium within the urban area.”

Compared to the Singapore National Stadium which is (a) smack dab in the middle of the city so it isn’t a challenge to get to and (b) has the capacity to build a huge stage plus giant LED screens, the Philippines doesn’t stand a chance.

To the Filipino Swifties who are fuming, this is the Singapore National Stadium. It has a sports venue capacity of around 55K people. On a regular concert configuration (ex. Born Pink), it can accommodate 45K to 50K and that is with minimal stage space and screen use. https://t.co/0K6ZfGUewH pic.twitter.com/bwHxyaA1IK

— Amber #SOGIEEqualityNow (@geeyanii) June 20, 2023

Another said that even Coldplay had to reduce their stage for their two-day Philippine Arena stop because we don’t have the logistics for the full stage. “Taylor’s stage is bigger and her sets take more time to prepare than a guy running around the stage,” said a Twitter user.

Reminder that Coldplay had to reduce their stage bc Philippines don’t have logistics. Taylor’s stage is bigger and her sets take more time to prepare than a guy running around the stage. Filo swifties deserve a tour, but this isn’t Taylor’s fault https://t.co/pfkzDC6KPT pic.twitter.com/YPtiFlN6ud

— s (@messuwanted) June 20, 2023

Another location?

Sinasabi ko sayo @taylorswift13 kayang kaya ka ng UST!!!! Paskuhan (Taylor’s Version)!!! HAHAHAHAHA https://t.co/0ZceOPIy4m pic.twitter.com/gLkZAFY4Jl

— K Manuel saw IVE, will see NMIXX! (@theklmanuel) June 21, 2023

Hear them out, the UST open field might be a better option than Philippine Arena. It’s in the middle of an urban area and it can accommodate a huge crowd capacity as proven by previous UST Paskuhans. How about it?

It’s time to accept the fact that we lost

Taylor Swift in Singapore the simplest itinerary,

Take morning flight/bus to SG.
Then take MRT to Stadium Station or Kallang Station.

Go to concert.

Take the next morning flight/bus home.
You can rest at Changi Airport while waiting or bus pick-up points,

— Lols (@lalalolss) June 21, 2023

When you finally accept that Taylor won’t be coming to the Philippines, it’s time you focus on the next step: How to secure tickets for Singapore or Japan. Twitter user @lalalolss created a simple itinerary for those interested in attending the Singapore shows. Some have even started posting on social media asking for assistance to buy tickets to Japan.

On a scale from 1 to 10, how badly do you need Taylor Swift to tour the Philippines?
