This PH City Was Named Taylor Swift’s 5th Top Listener in 2022

Oct 11, 2022   •   Meryl Medel

Ahead of the release of her new album, Taylor Swift has been drumming up a lot of attention by announcing the track titles through her mini Tiktok video series to giving fun facts about some songs on Instagram. It’s clearly working because everyone’s hyped for her new album.

QC at #5

Spotify recently released a list of the top cities that listened to the Artist of the Decade the most on the week of September 27 to October 4, and at the 5th place is our very own Quezon City. “Last week, these 13 cities were the biggest Taylor Swift listeners in the world. Will your city be #1 when the clock strikes midnight?” Spotify tweeted.

Only Quezon City and Singapore are the Southeast Asian countries included in the list. Beating QC for the top 4 spots are London, New York, Sydney, and Melbourne. Others trailing the Philippine city are Chicago, Los Angeles, Sao Paulo, Mexico City, Atlanta, Brisbane, and Dallas.

Pinoy represent!

Filipinos couldn’t help but cheer upon seeing that a Philippine city is included in the cities with the biggest Taylor Swift listeners.

QC lang sakalam! Pasok sa Top 5! @QCGov

QUEZON CITY OMG LABAN 🇵🇭

Check in with your Swiftie friends

Writer Alfonso Manalastas jokingly asked residents in Quezon City if they’re still okay, alluding to the many songs of heartbreak that Swift has penned.

QC friends ok lang ba kayo 😭 https://t.co/tzAM6WYu5J

Memes

It wouldn’t be a viral post on the Pinoy side of the internet if there weren’t memes about it. Case in point: this very apt reaction to QC’s top spot with a literal translation of “Cruel Summer” in Tagalog.

And this speculation on what the reaction of the Quezon City mayor might have been:

Taylor Swift concert when?

But fans are also asking if the pop star is planning to bring her world tour to the country, especially with how huge her fanbase here is, as proven by this list. The last time the singer-songwriter performed in the Philippines was last June 6, 2014 when she brought The Red Tour to the Mall of Asia Arena. After, Taylor Swift held two more world tours — The 1989 World Tour and Reputation Stadium Tour — but neither made it to the country.

QC was #1 at one point

Back in April 2019, Quezon City topped the same list just after the pop star released her single “ME!”, so it isn’t surprising that the city has kept its spot at the Top 10 (or Top 13, in this case).

#TaylorSwift @taylorswift13 fans in #QuezonCity stream her music the MOST in the entire world! WHAT! Check out the news here –https://t.co/9I4IYoTIsX pic.twitter.com/ppacEjLswu

One of PH’s most streamed artists

Likewise, in 2021, Taylor Swift held the second spot in the list of top artists in the Philippines, only behind South Korean superstar BTS. She was also the top female artist on Spotify in 2017, 2019, and 2020, and her streak was only broken by Filipino singer-songwriter Moira Dela Torre.

Taylor Swift — Spotify’s Top Female Artist in 2021:

#1. US
#1. UK
#1. UAE
#1. Australia
#1. Canada
#1. Malaysia
#1. Philippines
#1. Singapore
#1. Vietnam
#2. Taiwan
#3. Indonesia
#6. Mexico
#8. Brazil

Midnights

Described as a collection of “the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life,” Taylor Swift’s tenth album Midnights is set to be released on October 21, 2022. She revealed the tracklist over the course of 13 Tiktok videos from September 21 to October 7, where she revealed one track per episode in random order.
