In case you’ve been living under a rock, your English teacher (Taylor Swift) and your gym teacher (Travis Kelce) are officially engaged! After two years of dating, Travis pulled out a ring and said “Marry me, Taylor” — it’s a love story and she said yes! The whole world promptly went on a collective meltdown (us included), and here’s what we know so far about the engagement of the century, along with a lot of fun reactions!

Ed Kelce spills the details

A fortnight passed before Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce made their engagement public, according to the NFL player’s father Ed Kelce.

“Travis actually did the proposal, oh, maybe two weeks, not quite two weeks ago,” Ed Kelce said in an interview with ABC News 5 Cleveland. “He was going to put it off till this week. I think she was getting maybe a little antsy, but he was going to put her off till this week, to, you know, make some grand thing, to make it a big special event.”

He added that he knew about Travis’s plan to propose months in advance, even expecting the proposal to happen during last year’s NFL season. He advised his son: “You know, you could do it on the side of the road, do it any place that makes it a special event … when you get down on one knee and ask her to marry you.”

So Travis went down on bended knee at a garden in Missouri, according to ABC News 5 Cleveland. “He got her out there, they were about to go out to dinner, and he said, ‘Let’s go out and have a glass of wine,’ … They got out there, and that’s when he asked her, and it was beautiful,” Ed Kelce said.

 

“Whenever Taylor says so.”

This is what Travis told his father when the latter asked when they would announce their engagement.

“It was kinda funny, about a week ago, I asked Travis, ‘So when are you going to announce the engagement?’” Ed Kelce recalled. “He said, ‘Whenever Taylor says so.’”

 

Travis had a hand in designing the engagement ring

According to ABC News, the groom-to-be designed the ring with jewelry designer Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry in New York City.

The massive rock on Taylor’s finger is an old-mine brilliant cut diamond, which was a common cut in the early 1700s to late 1800s. According to the Gemological Institute of America, it’s a “great choice if you’re looking for an engagement ring with antique or vintage qualities,” which is an aesthetic we as fans all know that Taylor simply adores.

The price of Taylor’s ring has not yet been confirmed, but the Lubeck’s rings retail from USD 4,300 (approximately PHP 246,000) and can go up to USD 38,300 (approximately PHP 2.189 million).

While these are the only confirmed information we know as of the moment, many fans have been making speculations and expressing their happiness through exclamation point-filled meltdowns on social media.

 

Fans speculate the proposal happened in their backyard…

According to a Swiftie who works in the service and event industry and who heard about the team Travis hired for the gorgeous floral setup, the proposal happened in the backyard of the house Travis bought three months into dating Taylor.

“The most fun fact I can share is that the proposal was being set up while they recorded the podcast and he proposed afterwards,” the fan wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “It was being set up in his backyard as they filmed and then the rest is history!”

 

… and the emoji represents their initials

When Taylor and Travis announced their engagement, they did with a simple joined Instagram post, captioned: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married ”

The emoji might seem out of place, but fans believe it represents the couple’s initials. The emoji is a TNT, which means Taylor ‘n’ Travis!

 

Even Gordon Ramsay is “bready” to join the festivities

In an Instagram post, “favorite Home Ec teacher” Gordon Ramsay congratulated the newly engaged couple, and fans were quick to react.

One even said that Gordon himself “needs to cater the wedding,” to which the chef quickly responded with an affirmative. “I’m bready for it,” he wrote.

 

One couple may have predicted this fairytale love story five years ago…

For Halloween in 2020, married couple Makayla and Nick Stephens dressed up as Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce — way before the newly engaged couple even met in 2023.

“I don’t know any world in which Taylor Swift + Travis Kelce would be in the same room together, but apparently in this one they’re married? #HappyHalloween,” she captioned a photo of herself and her husband in 2020.

Makayla said she has been a Swifitie since she was a child, and her husband is a huge fan of the Chiefs, so they simply wanted to dress up as their idols that one Halloween night. They didn’t think the two celebrities would actually become a couple.

“We threw them together. We were just trying to be the only ones at the party that weren’t dressed up. So I think it’s funny and it’s coincidental,” Makayla told ABC News.

“I would have never in my life, in a million years, thought that they would even cross paths, much less be engaged,” she added.

…while another couple might have manifested it 10 years ago

A decade ago, when Taylor was going around the world for the 1989 Tour, former professional football player Chase Daniel gifted her with a jersey of the Kansas City Chiefs, the same team Travis is a part of.

In reaction to the engagement news, Daniel quoted his old tweet from September 2015 and wrote: “I’m just saying…It may have started with me. You’re welcome, [Travis]”
