Very few gadgets have come close to achieving the cult status of the Nokia, and a lot of us were put out when the brand went under in 2014. Thankfully, it was bought out by Microsoft and has actually released a couple of decent, if lackluster, phones since. Rumors have been floating around for the last year, but CEO Rajeev Suri has finally confirmed that they will indeed be returning to the smartphone market this year, hopefully going the way of their N1 tablet—that is, running on Android. Who’s excited? I know I am!
For the QWERTY crazed, nothing comes close to the Blackberry and how BBM pretty much replaced the gaping hole that Yahoo! Messenger left in our lives. If you haven’t been keeping up, the Blackberry Priv and Passport, the touchscreen (with a keyboard slider) and large screen versions of the classic Blackberry, are nothing short of awesome, even if they may have fallen under your radar. Two new devices are slated for release this year, as recently leaked images have confirmed—proving that the cult favorite can more than keep up with today’s smartphone giants.
Have we ever truly loved anything as much as we did our Motorola RAZR? Now owned by Lenovo, the brand is rumored to make an epic comeback on June 9 this year. Rumors have it that the Lenovo relaunch this month will have the one and only RAZR running on Android OS, keeping up with the Japanese trend of ‘Galapagos phones’. The whole thing seems like a happy marriage of old-school cool and cutting edge tech, and we, quite literally, can’t wait.
Gululu brings back our favorite virtual pet in the form of a smart water bottle geared toward kids and ‘playful’ adults. The premise is simple: your water bottle Tamagotchi (which connects to your smartphone via an app) reminds you to stay hydrated throughout the day, and you keep it happy by complying. The tech is smarter than that, however—it not only keeps track by reporting how much water has been consumed, but also recommends how much the user should be drinking each day based on factors like height, weight, location and so on. It can even tell when the user is cheating by dumping water out, as well as connect to other Gululu’s with a simple shake. It’s a bit pricey, currently pegged on their Kickstarter at US$99—but it’s cute as hell. We won’t judge you for getting one for yourself.
Do you know any other tech that’s relaunching this year? Geek out with us in the comments below!
