You know what kids these days say, “If it’s not on the internet, it never happened.” These online trends aren’t just etched in the internet’s history, but also defined 2019.

 

#BottleCapChallenge

The #BottleCapChallenge involves attempting to completely unscrew the cap on an already opened bottle with a roundhouse kick. This challenge is said to have started in the world of MMA, but eventually kicked through the trends of mainstream pop culture in the summer of 2019 after UFC Featherweight Champion Max Holloway challenged John Mayer into doing it.

But while everyone who did it looked cool and completed the challenge in style, it was Mariah Carey who took the crown for using the ‘power’ of her voice to unscrew the cap.

Storm Area 51

This gag started from a Facebook event, encouraging people to gather and infiltrate a military facility to see whatever *cough* aliens *cough* the government might be hiding there.

Of course, no one really dared to enter the restricted area on the day of the raid. Well, except for the one or two civilians that tried to. But even if zero aliens showed up and there was no actual raiding that happened on the day of the storming, small music festivals took place instead and the people who actually came still managed to spark some fun.

Sonic vs the Internet

Complaining on the internet does make a difference and Sonic’s glow up is the existing proof of that.

The first trailer for the much-awaited Sonic the Hedgehog live action movie was dropped earlier this year and it made a lot of noise all over the internet—for the wrong reasons, like the creepy realistic eyes and uncanny humanoid figure.

Thankfully, the creators were willing to take the suggestions and criticisms. Now everyone who grew up with Sonic will surely have a great time watching the improved film!

Endings are often the most anticipated part of every story, and this year Avengers: Endgame took the spot as the most awaited ending of all endings.

After several movies, we finally reached the conclusion where all the character arcs and all the story lines were tied down to one heartfelt ending that left all of us crying and laughing—but overall, satisfied.

The series may have ended but the legacy of GoT will live. Yep, even its fails.

For years, the Game of Thrones series had been one of the most anticipated shows. The great acting, the breathtaking sets and even the awesome CGI effects—everything made the world that George R.R. Martin wrote come to life.

But no one will ever forget that one stray Starbucks coffee cup that made it to the final cut.

Oh, and that finale that got most of the audience…

But all in all, it had been a great ride. Guess the disappointed fans will just have to wait for George R.R. Martin to finish Winds of Winter and, hopefully, be satisfied with the book ending.

Even with his three decades in the entertainment industry, anyone would agree that 2019 is Keanu Reeves’ year. For most of the year, Keanu had become the apple of every netizen’s eye.

And no, it’s not Keanu’s on-screen roles that got him all these attention. It was his gestures like getting a shuttle for his fellow passengers after a cancelled flight, giving up his seat on the subway and his knack for not touching women during photographs—basically, his real life gentleman attitude is what got people talking.
