It’s officially the start of the rainy season. This week also rained (see what we did there) some interesting news, from championship golds, video game awesomeness, and a heart-wrenching series finale ruined by spoilers.
Here’s the week in memes!
The Golden State Warriors ended a 40-year title drought when they beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 105-97 in Game 6 of the 2015 NBA Finals. Basketball is a team sport. The best player in the world is no match for the best team in the world.
The 2015 SEA Games have ended, and the Philippines ended their run at 6th place with a haul of 29 golds, 36 silvers, and 66 bronze medals. The country initially aimed for 50 gold medals. What attracted the most attention however was the performance by our divers during the event. They also claimed that they just had 4 days of practice prior to the SEA games. Now, PSC chairman Richie Garcia is demanding answers from Philippine aquatics chief Mark Joseph.
The Philippine Azkals trounced Yemen 2-0 for their second straight victory in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers in Qatar. The win keeps their World Cup hopes alive. Congrats boys!
This year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo showcased some good games. From the new Doom, Fallout 4, Star Wars Battlefront, Uncharted 4, the Final Fantasy VII remake and more, it’s an awesome time to be a gamer. Shut up and take our money!
As further proof that the internet age is full of politically correct sensitivity, Isabelle Daza apologized for using the hashtag #Siquiwhores in her Instagram account, saying it was just a joke and a term of endearment for her and her cousins. Reactions to the hashtag were mixed, some were criticizing her and some were defending her, saying that the actress was referring to herself and not to the actual place. Siquijor Vice Governor Dingdong Avanzado even stepped in and asked for a clarification from Isabelle, and encouraged the people of Siquijor to move on and focus on more important issues.
Move on indeed.
Surprise! The MRT experienced yet another system failure, forcing passengers of a north-bound train to walk in the middle of the Guadalupe bridge. The Palace has apologized (AGAIN) for the recent malfunction and promised improvements are underway. It’s gotten so bad that recent studies show that the MRT is 5 times more dangerous than its counterparts. Heck, even Davao Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has called the government insensitive for what commuters have to go through on a daily basis.
The Supreme Court issued a temporary restraining order on the construction of the controversial Torre De Manila effective immediately. Netizens have slammed the construction of the building for destroying the view of the Rizal Shrine by photobombing it. Current Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada and former Mayor Fred Lim have been trading blame for giving DMCI the necessary permits to construct the tower. Oral arguments are set on June 30.
Season 5 of Game of Thrones has ended. Despite the jerks who left spoilers all over the internet, the season finale has left us with a broken heart and lingering questions: “What the hell happens next?” and “why are you such an asshole, George RR Martin?”
While many fan theories have been brewing, one thing’s for sure: Olly is such a douchenozzle.
