Commuters, Save This Rail Network Map for Your Next Metro Manila Escapade

Mar 14, 2023   •   Kyzia Maramara

“The beginning of any planned adventure starts with a good map,” captioned Kai Buizon when she first uploaded her diagram of the Metro Manila railway network. It was a simple map that detailed the LRT-1, LRT-2, and MRT-3 lines but for Pinoy commuters, it was a huge help.

A helpful train map

Buizon’s diagram included all the stops in the three railway systems and clearly showed where they intersect. Although maps like these are available online, Buizon’s is minimalist and simple, nothing too confusing for those intimidated to commute in Metro Manila. It’s also updated to include the new LRT-2 stations.

For folks who want to save the map, Buizon was even kind enough to drop a Google Drive link for the photos.

Pinoys have more suggestions

Buizon’s mother posted the artwork on Facebook, much to the delight of Pinoys online. It has amassed 45k reactions and 47k shares as of writing. Pinoys praised the artwork saying it’s a huge help for commuters everywhere.

“Government should pay her for this. This is helpful for tourists too!” said one comment.

“You are so smart in sharing this google map that would benefit commuters. This is really of great help sa ating mga Kababayan especially the tourist coming to our country,” said another.

But Pinoys also had suggestions to improve it too. Many asked Buizon to update the map and include the PNR line from Tutuban to Calamba.

“Hi, This is great help for fellow commuter. I suggest to include PNR Stations which also helps 210,000 passengers daily. Will appreciate that in advance!” said one netizen.

Another also suggested that the EDSA Carousel route should be included:

One netizen even added that maybe the artwork could include a guide on which train door opens at different stations: “Pwede nyo din ba ilagay kung kaliwa o kanang pintuan ang magbubukas kada station? Hirap kabisaduhin e.”

Buizon expressed gratitude to everyone who appreciated her map. “Thank you, everyone, for appreciating my map! Maraming salamat,” she commented on her mother’s post.

Planned railway projects

In a few years, Buizon will have to update her diagram to include all the planned railway projects.

A 2028 diagram of Metro Manila railway systems will include the LRT-1 Cavite expansion and the Metro Manila Subway System that will span from Valenzuela to Pasay. The latter, dubbed the “Project of the Century“, is a project that has been in the works for 50 years. The construction finally begins with the first leg, including the first four subway stations, expected to be completed in 2027.

The government also has plans for a PNR North railway extension from Clark to Tutuban and a project for MRT-7 from North Avenue to Bulacan.
