These Are the Only Five Hobbies You’ll Need for a Transformative 2025

Jan 1, 2025   •   Kyzia Maramara

Before you dismiss the idea of five hobbies as unrealistic, consider this: when did hobbies become a chore? Hobbies are meant to be fun, whether it’s gaming, collecting figurines, or occasional painting. There’s no pressure to excel; just enjoy the process. But hobbies can be transformative. They can enrich your life in so many ways. TBH, you can have as many hobbies as you want, but if you really want to go all-in on self-improvement, try having at least have one hobby from the categories below:

One that keeps you in shape

Some examples: Pilates, swimming, walking, team sports, cycling, hiking

Most people’s enthusiasm for getting in shape fizzles out by March (guilty!), but we’re willing to bet that’s because they get overwhelmed by the year-long plans. Start small if you’re scared of disappointing yourself and quitting your fitness era. Focus on planning what to do in your first month. If that’s too intimidating, plan your workouts by week. And remember, you can always start again whenever you want. So yes, there’s no shame in hitting the gym in January!

One that keeps you creative

Some examples: Drawing or painting, photography, journaling, knitting, crocheting, music, pottery, cooking, baking, video editing, DIY activities

Invest in a hobby that lets you bring something to life. Encourage your creativity! It doesn’t matter if your first pottery project is a wonky bowl too heavy to use or if your first painting unintentionally turned out to be an abstract piece. What matters is that you let your creativity flow. Go ahead and purchase that camera and romanticize your days with tons of photos. Try your knack at baking or purchase a pretty notebook for journaling. If you let yourself be creative often enough, you might be surprised to find how easy it is to be inspired and motivated daily.

One that builds your knowledge

Some examples: Reading, learning languages, traveling, watching documentaries, listening to podcasts

Who says learning has to be serious? You don’t need a master’s or a PhD to become a lifelong learner. ICYDK, there are a ton of fun mental hobbies you can pick up sans the pressure to perform. Learn a language to understand your favorite K-pop idols, lose yourself in a good book (even ones with pictures!), or binge-watch documentaries on your passions. The key to a fulfilled life is to be curious and keep learning. And that could be your 2025 superpower.

One that makes you money

Some examples: Creating content, freelance writing, graphic design, editing, training, tutoring

Before you freak out and say that hobbies are supposed to be fun and not pressure you to earn, think about it — you’re getting paid doing what you love. These days, anyone can make money doing things they’re interested in. Do you love filming your outfits? You could make a great fashion content creator online. Do you have an academic edge? Consider tutoring kids as a side hustle. Or maybe you’re interested in website development or graphic design. There are a ton of opportunities online for both beginners and professionals. If you enjoy creating something and you earn from it, wouldn’t that be hitting two birds with one stone?

One that elevates your mindset

Some examples: Reading self-help books, meditation, journaling, traveling, volunteering

If you’re already pouring time into a hobby, make sure it can elevate your well-being. Activities like reading self-help books can provide valuable insights and strategies for personal growth, helping you develop a more positive outlook on life. Meditation and journaling offer powerful tools for mindfulness and self-reflection. Traveling and volunteering can open your eyes to diffrent cultures and perspectives. Personal development in 2025? Why not!

So, which hobbies will you be trying next year?
