A few weeks back, the brand announced that they will soon be launching face masks as the demand for protective equipment against the coronavirus spikes. According to Nikkei Asian Review, the company behind Uniqlo, Fast Retailing, has shared that the AIRism masks will start selling in Japan on June 19.
The masks are made with the special Uniqlo AIRism fabric technology that is breathable, cool to the touch, and dries quicky. It will be made with a layer for filtering and blocking bacteria and pollen, and another layer to block ultraviolet rays.
The AIRism masks come in packs of three which costs JPY 990 or roughly PHP 462. Although it will only be available in white, there are three sizes to choose from: small, medium, and large. The masks are washable and reusable.
Fast Retailing has conducted tests on the masks and found out that the filter was effective in removing 99% of bacterial droplets and pollen particles. But it cannot completely block out viruses such as the coronavirus. Wearing masks for prevention is essential but total protection from the virus includes frequent handwashing and maintaining social distancing.
Uniqlo has confirmed that the face masks will be made available in the Philippines soon, though they are still finalizing the details for the release.
In the meantime, here are branded washable face masks you can purchase now:
