The first quarter of 2024 spoiled anime fans with back-to-back quality releases, such as The Apothecary Diaries, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, Solo Leveling, and Classroom of the Elite Season 3, to name a few. However, this year seems as promising as ever, with lots of highly-anticipated animes coming back and new series for fans to binge-watch.
Check out this list of upcoming anime 2024 releases we are definitely adding to our watch list.
This one’s for the OG fans! After decades of no news about its continuation, Netflix finally revealed that it will handle the global release of the classic shoujo anime hit From Me To You (Kimi ni Todoke) in 2024. In this new season, we will see more of Sawako and Kazehaya and how their relationship with each other and their friends will evolve. No specific dates have been announced yet, so hopefully, they’ll release more details and materials soon. *Fingers crossed*
Last year was a roller coaster ride in the anime world, and Oshi No Ko was one of the series that stood out. Apart from its dance trend booming on TikTok, the plot interestingly explores the reality behind the glamorous Japanese pop industry through the lens of the protagonist and famous idol Ai. Because of its success, a second season was immediately announced, airing sometime this year.
We won’t have to wait that long for the iconic trio (and Nezuko, of course) because Demon Slayer is coming back this May! The new season will follow the demon slayers training under the supervision of the hashiras in preparation for a looming fight against the villain Muzan. This covers around nine chapters of the original manga by Koyoharu Gotouge, so fans fear that this arc may be too short. But we’re seated anyway!
We’re finally seeing Hananoi-kun animated! You read it right: the famous romance comedy manga A Condition Called Love (alternate title: Hananoi-kun to Koi no Yamai) is getting its anime adaptation this year. Prepare your heart for fluff and wholesome scenes as we watch innocent 16-year-old Hotaru learn about love and its complexities.
What if two skeptics suddenly discover that aliens and ghosts exist? Dandadan is an action-packed series about Momo Ayase, an occult fanatic, and Okarun, an alien believer, as they face the paranormal. This manga by Yukinobu Tatsu is regularly published in the popular Japanese magazine Weekly Shonen Jump and will finally have its anime later this year!
Warning: minor spoilers ahead! Get ready to watch an all-out battle between our hero, Deku, and the main villain, All For One, in this upcoming season of My Hero Academia. The anime is nearing its final phase as it will cover three different arcs starting from the manga’s 34th volume, which includes the introduction of Star and Stripe (a new hero from the USA), a traitor in Class 1A that will eventually betray the heroes, and parts of the Final War Arc. The anime will release its first episode on May 4.
After two long years, one of the most anticipated and renowned isekai is finally returning on April 5! The upcoming season of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime will continue to follow our protagonist, Rimuru, and the new challenges he will face as a Demon Lord.
Well-known within the manga community, Kaiju No. 8 (alternate title: Monster #8) is getting animated this year under TOHO Animation, the same company involved in producing My Hero Academia. The anime is set in a world where monsters called kaiju roam the country, so an elite military group known as the Defense Corps was formed to fight the beasts. The main character, Kafka, is about to give up his dream of joining the corps when an accident turning him into a kaiju reignites his passion.
