What’s a better Valentine’s pasabog than Vice Ganda revealing to the world that he actually married his longtime boyfriend Ion Perez? That certainly blew other celebrity V-day pakulo out of the water this year. While you’re stewing in kilig (or chanting ‘Sana all’ over and over), take a look back at the pair’s love story and their journey to the altar.
Vice and Ion first met at the former’s talk show. Ion had just bagged the Mr. Universe Tourism 2018 and was watching the show with two other pageant winners. They answered a few questions Vice threw their way and Ion charmed everyone with his dance moves. When their part ended, they had a brief hug and went separate ways.
Their paths cross again after Ion became a regular at the noontime show It’s Showtime. As one of the main hosts, Vice had plenty of time to make conversation with him. Pretty soon, their light banter and bold flirting on national television had everyone shipping them.
Ion further made his way into everyone’s hearts after his interview with Tito Boy. We found out more about his humble beginnings growing up in Concepcion, Tarlac as the 11th child out of 15 siblings. His father was a jeepney driver and he often helped his mom sell kakanin in the streets. However, Ion made it clear that he was not after Vice for the fame or money. He said he genuinely liked comedian’s kindness.
What’s a better way to get to know someone better than to bond with them outside of your usual environment? Vice and Ion seemed cozy during the comedian’s concert tours abroad. They even met with some family from both sides — Ion’s sister and Vice’s mother — and went sightseeing.
The following month, Vice would tease that he has been in a relationship for the past seven months. However, he wouldn’t drop the person’s name.
One sign that things were getting serious between the two was Ion getting “03 31 1976” inked on his leg. As we all know, that’s Vice’s birthdate. It was posted on Instagram stories with the caption “Don’t break the rules.”
After months of being a rumored couple, the pa-kilig on It’s Showtime escalated to something more serious. Hosts Anne Curtis and Vhong Navarro asked the pair to pretend that they were alone. They exchanged I love yous which made them both suddenly tear up. When asked why he cried, Ion simply said this: “Kasi ang saya kapag nakikita ko siyang masaya, e. Ang sarap makitang masaya yung taong mahal mo.”
During the last day of It’s Showtime’s 10th-anniversary celebration, Vice Ganda finally admitted that he and Ion are in a relationship. At that point, it was obvious for anyone with eyes, but the verbal confirmation was much appreciated.
“You don’t need to be loved by the whole world, you only need yourself and one person that you love to accept and love you back… And meron na ako nun,” said Vice.
Ion for his part said that his partner being Vice Ganda was just a bonus, but he really fell in love with Tutoy — Vice’s nickname growing up.
Vice chose Valentine’s Day to announce that he married Ion in October of last year at the Little Vegas Chapel. The pair vowed to “commit themselves to each other” while sharing sweet smiles throughout the ceremony.
“Buong-buo ‘yung loob ko na makasama ka. Wala akong masabi basta mahal na mahal kita, Tuy. I love you,” Ion said.
Vice Ganda professed his love and appreciation for his partner, expressing how he is happy to spend the rest of his life with Ion.
“Ang saya-saya ko na ikaw ‘yung kasama ko ngayon, ikaw ‘yung kasama ko kahapon at ikaw ‘yung alam kong makakasama ko pa rin bukas at sa mga susunod pang mga araw,” he said. “I promise na mag-iipon pa ako ng maraming-marami pang pagmamahal sa puso ko para makaya ko pang mahalin ‘yung sarili ko, makaya ko pang mahalin ka at ‘yung mga mahal natin sa buhay,” said Vice Ganda.
To that, we say sana all.
