A particular scene in the second season of Netflix’s Wednesday garnered mixed reactions among Pinoys after two characters spoke in Filipino.
Warning: Some spoilers ahead for Wednesday Season 2!
In Season 2, Wednesday’s self-proclaimed best friend Enid (Emma Myers) had started a budding relationship with a fellow werewolf named Bruno (Noah Taylor).
In Episode 6, Bruno keeps receiving messages in Filipino, which he claims were from his mother in the Philippines.

Later, he was spotted on campus taking a phone call, where he told the person on the other end of the line: “Miss na kita. Miss ko na ‘yung pagpasyal natin sa beach. Miss ko na lalo ‘yung mga matamis na labi mo. Baba ko na ‘to, mahal ko.”
Enid, who was actually being possessed by Wednesday after they had switched bodies, overheard him, and he tried to say he was only talking to his mother.
But unfortunately for him, Wednesday-as-Enid correctly understood what he said. Because of course, Wednesday knows how to speak Filipino, apparently having learned it from a Filipino fencing instructor named Datu.
“You and your mother are awfully close,” she confronted him. “Or was that your girlfriend back home that you failed to mention in an act of time-honored, misogynistic deception?”
Wednesday-as-Enid broke up with him, speaking the viral line: “‘Wag mo na akong kausapin, manlolokong taksil.”

Just hours after the episode dropped, the scene quickly went viral online. Many online Pinoys have dubbed it a “Uy Pilipins” moment.
“Galing ni Enid mag-Tagalog,” a Facebook user commented.
“FILIPINO WEDNESDAY AGENDA IS ALIVE AND WELL,” an X (formerly Twitter) user wrote.

But others also criticized the way the dialogue was written and delivered, describing it as “cringey.”
“Did the Wednesday cast and crew not consult with any Filipino that had a bearable Filipino accent because wtf was that,” an X (formerly Twitter) user said. “No hate to the actors I’m just scratching my head at how bad it sounds.”
“Wednesday writers, if y’all wanna include Filipino characters and a whole minute of Tagalog in your show, PLEASE don’t just use Google Translate. No Flipino talks like that,” another wrote.
