8 of the Craziest and Most Outrageous Luxury Items That Left People Confused

Jan 5, 2023   •   Edgardo Toledo

Consumerism knows no bounds. The Internet has witnessed its fair share of outrageous luxury items that have raised eyebrows with hefty price tags and function (or lack thereof). Read on and discover some luxury items that are simply out of this world.

T-shirt Shirt by Balenciaga

US$1,290 for this, @BALENCIAGA??! pic.twitter.com/aQwS2MFwwk

Your eyes aren’t playing tricks on you. Luxury fashion house Balenciaga decided to stitch two t-shirts together and called it a day. Designed by Demna Gvasalia, the T-shirt Shirt costs a whopping $1290 or roughly PHP 74,000. If you have that much cash to ~*splurge*~, go for it. But honestly, you can make your T-shirt Shirt for a way smaller price tag. Just saying.

Baguette Bag by Moschino

This bag looks like it came out fresh off the oven. Moschino’s Baguette Bag prompted mixed reactions from shoppers not only because of its unconventional design but also the hefty price tag. The clutch bag retails for $1,240 (around PHP 71,000)! Imagine how many baguettes (the edible ones) you could buy with that money. Priorities, people, priorities!

If you’re down for a purse that can only store your wireless earbuds or earrings, the Mini Le Chiquito Bag by Jacquemus is perfect for your OOTD! No, seriously. This bag is so tiny you’d be forgiven for not seeing it at first glance.

Chanel Boomerang

From tweed suits, perfumes, and pearl necklaces to bags, Chanel has released products that made a mark in the fashion world. However, the Chanel boomerang has sparked confusion and backlash.

The French fashion house was accused of appropriating the Indigenous Australian culture because boomerangs are typically regarded as objects of “work and leisure” for the Indigenous Australian community. Eventually, the fashion house issued a statement saying: “Chanel is extremely committed to respecting all cultures, and regrets that some may have felt offended.”

Silver money clip by Prada

Via Prada

Just when you think you’ve seen everything, Prada releases a money clip that retails for $525 or more than PHP 28,000! Even though it’s made of 925 Silver, you can’t help but wonder if this money clip can finish your pending deadlines or write an email on your behalf due to how expensive it is.

“Instant noodles” shoes by Bottega Veneta

Italian luxury brand Bottega Veneta confused everyone after releasing footwear that shares an uncanny resemblance to instant noodles. The pair of shoes comes in a pale yellow shade with an intricate macramé-style design. Wear this PHP42,000 open-heeled mule on any occasion and you might just remind everyone of their favorite instant noodles flavor.

Sterling Silver Tin Can by Tiffany & Co

Via Tiffany & Co

Part of the Everyday Objects collection, the Sterling Silver Tin Can is Tiffany & Co’s take on remaking everyday objects into handcrafted pieces of art. The tin can retail for $1,135 (around PHP 65,000) and sterling silver and vermeil, with the luxury brand’s iconic enamel accent. Is it worth it? It depends on who you ask.

Utopia Headphones by Focal

Believe it or not, the Utopia headphones cost €100,000 or almost PHP 6 million. Crazy. Aside from its sleek design and high-end technology, these headphones come with 18-karat gold and 6.5 carats of diamonds handcrafted by artisans. Of course, it’s quite obvious this product is aimed at those who have lots of cash to burn. But think about it, you’re basically using a pair of headphones that can buy you a house!
