We’re seeing more Filipino artists like SB19, Sarah G, and BINI getting the spotlight, and we couldn’t be happier! It’s high time for the Original Pinoy Music scene to claim a broader space in the music sphere. In fact, a new artist is making a name for herself by spreading the eclectic music of Mindanao. Meet Shaira, aka, the internet’s newest sensation.
Unless you’re living under a rock, chances are you’ve heard of ‘Selos’ by Shaira, the newest hugot anthem making waves across the internet. The song’s piercing beats immediately remind you of budots you’ll often hear blasting on the streets. However, the melodramatic vocals and candid lyrics are what had us singing non-stop.
If the lyrics “Ang puso ko’y nagdurugo, at parang sumisikip and dibdib ko. Sa t’wing nakikita ko na magkatabi kayo” don’t make you feel something, are you even human?
As of writing, “Selos” is currently ranked number 1 in the Daily Viral Songs Philippines of Spotify Charts, with “Forever Single (Walang Jowa)” (another one of Shaira’s bangers) chilling at number 3. That’s on top of her millions of YouTube views, TikTok engagements, and several covers that “Selos” is getting so far.
Does this make Shaira the Queen of Bangsamoro pop music or B-Pop? Undoubtedly so, according to Pinoys.
no promo. no album. no mall tours. no tv guestings. no 200 dogs. just pure b-pop excellence ✨️

“Just a thought, Shaira deserves a guest spot on ASAP or any national TV show! Our mainstream entertainment industry needs representation from Bangsamoro singers/artists, and Shaira is the one,” another user said.

“O, walang autotune ‘to ha. Dang!” another one wrote.
We don’t know much about Shaira herself, but a quick look at her social media accounts will tell you she’s a seasoned artist. She’s dropped several songs under AHS Productions, such as “Machine Gun,” “Ikaw Lamang (Babycakes Ko),” and “Masandag A Mama.” The singer is also part of the Trigger Band, which performs at events and occasions.
Shaira may have skyrocketed into social media stardom, but plagiarism allegations have started to shadow her newfound fame. Soon after her song went viral, many noticed the uncanny similarity between “Selos” and “Trouble Is A Friend” by Australian singer-songwriter Lenka, released in 2009.
Lenka’s song was mentioned in the credits ‘Selos’ music video on YouTube, and AHS Productions also put out a disclaimer, saying it’s “a work of parody and should be viewed as such.”
“Selos” has now been taken down from streaming sites. According to AHS Productions, they are now in the process of securing a license so they can make the song an official cover.
We’re all for jokes, but when they come off as blatantly disrespectful, that’s where we draw the line. Many have noticed numerous comments on Shaira’s videos, such as calling her a “tempered glass queen” or saying “pa tempered glass.”
Comments like these, regardless of intentions, have a discriminatory undertone, and there’s nothing funny about that.
Many netizens have called out this behavior, asking for respect for Shaira and the Filipino Islam community:
on another note, can we please stop calling our muslim brothers and sisters as tempered glass people? they make living out of it to survive this challenging world. instead, let’s just wish them a happy ramadan. respect naman kay shaira and the rest of the Islam community.

Some pointed out that this discriminatory behavior was happening during Ramadan, of all times:
huy i get that we’re having fun with shaira and her song but parang sobra naman yung iba nagtataka si shaira bat tinatawag sya na tempered glass queen tapos may nabasa rin akong comment referring to her as abu sayaf queen. like bffr??? during Ramadan pa

Even Shaira has spoken out against the “tempered glass queen” comments she’s been constantly getting, saying “Nakakasakit na rin po.”
As one netizen said, “Di niyo kina-cool yan.”
