Glinda Gets the Spotlight in the New ‘Wicked’ Prequel Book Hitting Shelves in 2026

You read that right! Galinda: A Charmed Childhood is set to hit shelves on September 29, 2026. Gregory Maguire, the man behind the iconic Wicked novel, is penning a sister volume to his 2025 prequel, Elphie: A Wicked Childhood. This time, the ‘Wicked’ prequel is diving into the early life of Galinda. Yes, Galinda with a “ga”.

The book’s plot details are tightly kept under wraps, but fans can expect 256 pages of an in-depth backstory of the bubbly, high-born girl before she floated into Oz.
Based on the book’s description, it will start with Galinda’s childhood as the youngest of four children in a family down on their luck. She joins district dance competitions and is both pampered and ignored and ignorant of the town’s growing resentments.
“As her father deftly pivots around the snares and nets laid for him by his competitors, Galinda begins to dance toward a life that might lift her above her proud, if hardscrabble, childhood,” read the description.
There will be a limited edition for collectors
Galinda: A Charmed Childhood is now available for pre-order at USD 30 (approx. PHP 1,766). There will also be a limited deluxe edition available, with special stenciled page edges and custom endpapers.

During Wicked‘s theatrical run in 2024, Maguire’s book, Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, soared to #1 on The New York Times Best Seller list. Published in 1995 and turned into a Broadway musical in 2003, the novel and its story became a global phenomenon.
Maguire also published several sequels in the years that followed: Son of a Witch, A Lion Among Men, and Out of Oz. Maguire’s books are available in Fully Booked stores and online.
Does this mean we could be waiting for another Wicked movie?
It’s too early to tell whether Maguire’s sequels and prequels will be adapted for the big screen. Wicked (2024) had a successful run, earning 10 Oscar nominations and winning Best Costume Design and Best Production Design.
The movie’s second part, Wicked: For Good (2025), is currently a box-office hit.
