2020 has been a difficult year for most people, and it’s been especially hard on Hanz Cua’s career. You know who really made the most out of this year, though? Wish 107.5. While other stations are known for their DJ’s and their popular talkies, Wish has made a name for itself thanks to their Wish Bus, where a wide variety of artists get featured on a regular basis. Some of these performances are mind-blowing. Others, not so much. Wherever they fall on that spectrum, though, one thing’s for sure: all 8 of these performances are memorable, one way or another.
Let’s leave the more introspective countdowns to more capable people. Here now are the 8 most eye (or ear) catching performances on the Wish Bus for 2020.
Skusta Clee’s had a very crazy year or two, capped off with him and his on and off girlfriend, Zeinab Haraka, finally announcing that they’re going to have a baby.
The thing is, because he’s often associated with Jeje Rap, people forget how insanely talented Skusta Clee actually is. Yes, he can rap, but he also has a vocal range that makes him confident enough to call himself the “Chris Brown of the Philippines,” and this song, free of any pitch correction shenanigans, is the purest testament to that.
This performance stands out because this whole thing came out smack dab in the middle of that Clint Bondad brouhaha. Who knew that Catriona Gray could actually sing like this, right? Definitely a great way to just sidestep all that drama!
Probably the most unexpected performer on this list, Michael Pacquiao easily gets a polarized reaction by virtue of his family name alone. Regardless of what you might think about his dad’s boxing career or politics, it’s easy to see that this kid has bars, and it’s just a matter of finding his own voice more as he continues to rap and write(!) his own material. That’s nothing to scoff at.
We were today years old when we discovered that “Ordinary Song” was not performed by a foreign act. How long have you known?
Yes, we know — any performance by Morissette or Katrina Velarde on the Wish Band is a godsend, but This Band’s songs are criminally underrated in what is low-key an OPM renaissance in the middle of a pandemic. There’s something about the way this song hits that just makes it so memorable, and is always proof positive that more often than not, the best version of any song is the one performed while riding the Wish Bus. This performance really, really epitomizes that.
Reminding everyone that this is his song before Gary V and Coco Martin turned it into an unstoppable meme, Ebe Dancel’s pure vocals is just such a treat to listen to, especially with one of the most heart-rending songs in OPM history. Despite having performed this song countless times, his rendition on the Wish Bus has its own twists and turns, making it a must-watch for anyone who’s even remotely a fan of the song or the artist in question.
This would have been an easy #1 if December didn’t happen. With over 700,000 dislikes, this song was one of the most bizarre songs ever allowed on the Wish Bus (and they tend to actually delete the really bad ones from their YouTube channel, by the way).
In the end, Kim Chiu laughed her way to the tune of millions of pesos which she ended up donating to charity, and that’s all thanks to this song.
Welp. This video pretty much earns Wish 107.5 its name, because someone must have wished this from a genie for it to happen. Did you ever expect that you’d be ending 2020 to a viral hit from your girl Mimiyuuh (uhhhh ohhhh yeaahhhh) spitting fire on the mic? Michael Pacquiao, take your notes, and drink your water, bhie!
Mimiyuuuh also holds the distinction of thanking Wish 107.5 even before she finished her song, making her one of the most hilariously polite guests in anything, ever. Guess that explains why she had to censor her song to be a bit more… ermm, radio-friendly.
