“What would you do if there were no men in the world for 24 hours?” asked a video on TikTok. It was an interesting hypothetical question, one that has been asked numerous times on social media in the past, but it still elicits strong reactions every time. Soon, women flooded the comments section with responses supported by thousands of other women on social media. And the answers were illuminating.

On TikTok, user @kevindrivenkarma’s post amassed 16.9k comments. The answer with the most number of likes (15.2k!) reads: “I would walk at night and actually enjoy it. Look at the stars with no worries.”
“Go hiking alone, walk at night alone, camping alone, just enjoy my own company without watching my back,” commented another.
“Go to a bar and leave my drink on the table while I danced,” another person wrote.
Most of the top comments revolved around doing mundane things at night or alone and clearly, thousands of women across the globe agree with the statements. Many even said that they felt a “sense of peace and safety” just imagining the scenario becoming true.

Over on Twitter, a user named ‘Veronica’ shared a TikTok comments section filled with even more women answering the question.
“Wear another bathing suit and go to the beach,” said one person.
“A massive picnic with my girls at late and sleep under the stars,” commented another.
“Wow! Comments are sad! So much truth behind them as women I think most of us can agree that we would just be our true selves without fear,” wrote another woman.
This comments section screenshot pretty much tells us everything we need to know — women would feel safer without men around.
Men in the comments are very unhappy to learn that they are the problem

It’s painfully obvious how men and women live different experiences in a patriarchal society. While men have no problem walking down dark roads at night or, say, getting on an elevator alone with another male, women do. These are exact scenarios where women’s lives have been put in danger before. Even rejecting admirers is dangerous for a woman. It’s a reality that we are forced to live with every day.
Of course, men aren’t the only ones capable of harming women. Any person can harm another regardless of their gender, but the reality is, men do commit more acts of violence in comparison to women. But ultimately, it all boils down to being a decent human being.
Why are some of the men offended. Like who hurt you 💀💀💀💀

Sadly an entire comments section dreaming of a day without men is bound to trigger fragile egos. Some revert to the argument saying “not all men” are horrible. While that is true and women know it, that statement invalidates the problem — most women have had traumatic encounters with men. Enough to make women dream of a world without them. Once men accept the problem, the journey to addressing it can truly begin.
On the other hand, some males are sympathizing with women. “It makes me sad how much fear women face on a daily basis,” said one guy on TikTok.
“I had no idea so many women are afraid to go out alone at night, it’s heartbreaking. Nobody living in a civilized society should have to have such fears so much. We can do better,” said yet another comment on Facebook.
The hypothetical “24 hours without men” should serve as an eye-opener for everyone. In fact, one could argue that the whole point of it is to raise better men. Men who know how to treat women — and everyone — with respect. Men who would unburden women from carrying around pepper sprays and fitting keys between their fingers as a makeshift defense tool.
What a dream.
