Here’s Why You Should Listen to Wonwoo and Jeonghan’s 1st Single Album ‘This Man’

Drifted off to dreamland yet? Or are you at least trying to? Well, SEVENTEEN members Wonwoo and Jeonghan have just the album for you. Last June 17, the members released their 1st single album as a subunit. Called This Man, the album features three heartbreaking songs that will surely tug at your heartstrings. Here are just 8 reasons why you should check it out:

 

The members have a unique charm that blends well together

Jeonghan and Wonwoo are both members of K-pop powerhouse SEVENTEEN, known for their incredible talent and unique charm. The members also have their own unique charm — Jeonghan with his sweet vocals and Wonwoo with his cool rap skills, which blend well in their beautifully heartbreaking songs.

 

It is part of a long line of amazing subunit releases

Aside from this collab, the members have also had other special subunits with other members. Notably, “Fallin for U” features Jeonghan and Joshua, and “Bittersweet” features Mingyu and Wonwoo. Wonwoo and Jeonghan have also previously collaborated during their debut show where they (along with Hoshi) created the song “No F.U.N.”.

 

The concept photos perfectly represent the album and the members

Back to the present, the two members have done the usual pre-release promotion activities for the album, which includes releasing three sets of concept photos, namely “The Blackout City”, “Blue Blood”, and “A Midsummer’s Night.” While the first two photos represent the darkness and sadness of the album, the last one shows the bright, ethereal side of the members.

 

The album’s story is beautiful and painful

This Man has a very detailed story that ties the whole album together. It is about a man trying to relive his happiest day with the love he has lost. It soon turns into a race against time as he and the rest of the world begins to fade while another man tries to save them. With the themes of lost love and time, the song, specifically the title track, perfectly portrays this.

 

The music video reflects the darkness of their world

Along with the release of the album, the members also released an accompanying music video for their title track, “Last Night.” The music video shows a dark aesthetic of the night as well as shows the darkness in their world.

 

“Last Night” is a dance-worthy bop with heartbreaking lyrics

The song prominently features a guitar played by Park Ju-Won paired with upbeat electro-pop tones that show a race against time between the characters. Written by Seventeen composer Woozi and his long-time collaborator Bumzu, the lyrics show the darkness and loss one has about love and the fear of forgetting them.

 

“Beautiful Monster” showcases Jeonghan’s angelic voice with a happy melody

Next, we have “Beautiful Monster”, which is Jeonghan’s solo. The song continues the story of a man who just wants to stay in his dream with his lost love despite the change. This song disguises its sad story with a beautifully happy melody that suits Jeonghan’s angelic voice.

 

“Leftover” showcases Wonwoo’s impeccable vocals and expressive lyrics

Lastly, we have Wonwoo’s solo, which is a slow ballad reminiscent of the slow tempo and dramatic chorus of KDrama OSTs. The song also shows Wonwoo’s impeccable vocals and lyrical ability as he expresses the pain he is left with.
