Xyriel Manabat isn’t going to take any nonsense from anyone — especially strangers on the Internet. The 19-year-old actress had the perfect response to a netizen who pointed out her armpit hair in an Instagram photo. Here’s how she handled the situation like a boss.
Last May 5, Manabat posted a series of photos from her Star Magic Hot Summer 2023 photo shoot. In one, she’s seen wearing a simple black spaghetti top while giving everyone a closer look at her fierce makeup. While the comments section were flooded with praises, Instagram user jasminecomfort_00 left an unsolicited comment.
“May hair yung armpit,” said the netizen. Manabat was quick to reply: “Uhmm coz tao ako? So what about it?”
“It means zinoom niya nang bonggang-bongga. Effort si ate,” said another Instagram user.
“Wala ka siguro buhok sa armpit. Sana all,” reads another comment.
Many others in the comment section stressed that body hair is normal, and everyone has it.
“Halatang hindi ka pa nakakaalis ng bansa. Try mo magpunta sa Europe,” added another.
Meanwhile, Manabat’s celebrity friends flooded the comments section with praises for the actress.
This isn’t Manabat’s first encounter with strangers on the Internet commenting about her body. She has also been criticized for having a well-endowed chest. In a recent Star Magic video, Manabat opened up about how she deals with these kinds of comments.
“Minsan yung iba pong kino-commentan natin ng ganito, hindi po kasing tibay ng loob ko, hindi po kasing lakas ng loob ko para lagpasan,” says Manabat. “Pwede po ‘wag niyo po ako manduhan sa katawan ko, opo. Tignan niyo na lang, scroll niyo na lang, huwag na po kayo mag-comment hangga’t maaari.”
“Hindi po body type ng tao ang mag-aadjust, kundi yung utak po natin,” she adds.

For centuries, women have plucked, shaved, and waxed every part of their body to fit other people’s standards of an “ideal body.” Women are pressured into getting rid of hairs on their legs, armpits, and bikini areas for the sake of conforming to gender dynamics and society’s definition of femininity.
But more and more women are embracing the pro-hair movement. Personalities and celebrities confidently flaunting their natural body hair like Miley Cyrus, Halsey, Julia Roberts, Drew Barrymore, Britney Spears, and more are turning stigma into strength and empowering thousands of women in the process. So no, Manabat has nothing to be ashamed of.
