Yoni Eggs: The Woman’s Newest Secret for Better Sexual Health

Apparently, women around the world are claiming yoni eggs to be the next best thing for better sex and a stronger vagina — and they’re pretty serious about it.
So I did my research on everything about yoni eggs and the rituals involving it in my attempt to fully understand what they are and how they work. Long story short, I ended up slightly less confused but still skeptic about a yoni egg’s so-called “powers.” But if women are swearing by its benefits, who am I to rain on their parade?
If you’re curious as to what exactly yoni eggs are, here’s a quick guide to understanding them for whenever you are in need of sexual awakening!
The word “yoni” translates to “sacred space” in Sanskrit which is a euphemism for the female genitalia. Yoni Eggs are an ancient, sacred tool meant for spiritual transformation. They are traditionally made of jade and are inserted inside the vagina for the purpose of stimulating the sensitive points in the vaginal canal.
(Okay, they do sound like sex toys.)
One of the reasons why women wear yoni eggs is to exercise their vaginal muscles, which helps you reach more intense orgasms. It also makes you much more sensitive down there so penetration will feel ten times better.
There are other benefits to using yoni eggs that aren’t necessarily for the purpose of sex. They also strengthen the pelvic floor, help ease childbirth, reduce PMS, menstrual cramps and menstrual duration, and help overcome sexual trauma.
Yoni eggs are said to give off a spiritual power depending on the type of gemstone used. The common ones are the Jade which is used for healing, Rose Quartz which channels the energy of love, and Black Obsidian which aids in releasing trauma from the body.
Before you put it in, you have to be as relaxed as possible. To some, it could be meditating for a few minutes; and to others, it could also mean masturbating (or gently massaging your reproductive organs, at the very least) — and no, that wasn’t a joke.
Once you’re relaxed, you first insert the larger end of the egg through your vagina canal slowly until it feels snug inside.
Once you’re comfortable having a yoni egg inside you, you can start performing pelvic floor exercises or kegels to really work your muscles for a few times during the week.
There are those who leave it inside for more than a day, while there are others who only use it for a few hours. Some people even have sex with it still inside! I guess it’ll depend on how long you want it stored within you and how badly you need your yoni egg’s “power.”
Although plenty of faithful yoni egg users are raving about the wonderful effects they’re getting, gynecologists are saying that these things are actually bad for you. Jen Gunter, MD, a San Francisco-based ob-gyn, said in an interview with People that the yoni eggs are really porous and bacteria can easily get lodged in those pores, exposing the vagina to those bacteria every time it’s used and reused.
Lauren Streicher, MD, associate clinical professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Northwestern University, also says that these eggs can get stuck in your vagina and could potentially scratch your vaginal wall while you’re trying to retrieve it.
There are no actual reports (yet) about yoni eggs actually harming those who use it though. So it looks like this strange sexual ritual is here to stay for the time being. And hey, how is it our business what people put up in their business anyway?
