The list of nominees for the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards is out, and while we’re happy to see our long-time faves making the cut, it’s great to see new blood out to overtake the industry institutions.
Here are the nominees you should keep an eye on for next year’s awards night.
She’s the leader of the pack with eight nominations. The American singer and first-time Grammy nominee scored nominations in the top categories: Record of the Year and Song of the Year for “Truth Hurts“, Album of the Year for Cuz I Love You (Deluxe), and Best New Artist.
Billie Eilish, also a first-time nominee and music industry newcomer, got six nominations. Like Lizzo, the 17-year-old singer-songwriter is nominated in each of the main categories. This makes her the youngest artist in Grammy history to receive nominations in the top 4 categories.
Third on the list of Grammy Awards neophytes nominated in top categories is Lil Nas X.
The American country rapper makes Grammy history for being the first openly gay rap artist to be nominated in top categories at music’s biggest night. Lil Nas X is nominated for Album and Record of the Year, as well as Best New Artist.
Don’t call her angel but a big-time Grammy nominee. Ariana Grande got five noms including her first Album of the Year nomination for “Thank U, Next.” The popstar is also vying for Best Pop Vocal Album, Best Pop Solo Performance and Record of the Year for “7 Rings”, as well as Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Boyfriend.”
Ed Sheeran is only nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album for NO.6 COLLABORATIONS PROJECT. He is the only thorn among a bunch of roses in the category. Perhaps his latest collaboration with singer Justin Bieber saved him this year.
Queen Bey is up for four Grammys next year, including Best Pop Solo Performance for her single “Spirit” from her The Lion King: The Gift album, which is also vying for Best Pop Vocal Album.
Taylor Swift got a Song of the Year nomination for the title track of her latest album Lover.
While she’s out of the list for Album of the Year, the 10-time Grammy winner is nominated for Best Pop Vocal performance for “You Need to Calm Down.”
Former U.S. first lady Michelle Obama is nominated for Best Spoken Word Album for Becoming. If she wins, she’ll be the second first lady or former first lady to do so next to Hillary Clinton in 1997.
Singer Alicia Keys will be hosting the 62nd Grammy Awards. It will air live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on January 26, 2020. To view the complete list of nominees, visit Grammy.com.
