8 Free “BGC Loves Local” Shows to Catch this Independence Day Weekend

Organized by the Bonifacio Art Foundation, Inc., BGC Loves Local is a two-day event running from June 10 to 11, 2017 that provides a venue for various organizations, groups and individuals to share their talent and creativity to the public. From theater productions and mini concerts to interactive activities and art exhibits, there’s just so much you’d be discouraged to miss!
If you have no plans at all this long Independence Day weekend, here are 8 free shows and exhibits at BGC Loves Local you should consider checking out! (For a full list of shows, go to bgcartscenter.org)
Mapaglarong Isip at Salita will feature Is It Wednesday Yet, The Fourth Players, and Lipstick Therapy. The show will run on June 10 at 4 P.M. at the Exhibit Hall of the Maybank Performing Arts Theater.
Totem is a collaborative exhibit of totem sculptures with accompanying video art. This exhibit will be available for public viewing all day on June 10 and 11 at the Alveo Central Plaza of the Maybank Performing Arts Theater.
View the art of crochet and the subject of geometry in a new light with Christine Faith Lopez’s public art installation. This exhibit will be available for public viewing all day on June 10 and 11 at the Alveo Central Plaza of the Maybank Performing Arts Theater.
Witness local dancers from all walks of life come together in an open jam highlighting the culture and art of streetdance. The show will run on June 10 at 3 P.M. at the Sunlife Ampitheater of the Maybank Performing Arts Theater.

Entablado is a movement dedicated to bringing dance closer to the people through film and multimedia arts. For BGC Loves Local, they’ll present Lucid, a dance film that brings its audience into the conscious world of dreaming.
The show will run on June 10 and 11 at 6 P.M. at the facade of the Maybank Performing Arts Theater.
This multimedia exhibit-cum-performance art showcases Philippine heritage fabrics fashioned into contemporary wear modeled against heritage architectural locations that are both under threat of obscurity.
The show will run on June 11 at 10 A.M. at the Sunlife Ampitheater of the Maybank Performing Arts Theater.
BGC Art Mart is a regular event where local and independent artists and creators have an opportunity to sell their products and services to a wider market. The art market will be open all day to the public from June 10 to 11 at the Alveo Central Plaza of the Maybank Performing Arts Theater.
Not to be missed is the country’s first ever Manila Mini Maker Faire where over 50 innovators, hobbyists and technologists from all over the Philippines will come together to exhibit their projects to the public. It will be held at the Canopy Plaza of the Mind Museum and will be free for everyone during the entire weekend. Check out their Facebook page for more details about this festival of innovation!
