When you cross the boundary of Pasig and Quezon City, you might spot that huge human figure towering over other buildings. That’s The Victor, a giant art installation and meant to serve as the centerpiece of Bridgetowne, a real estate development project of Robinsons Land Corp. Recently unveiled to the public, it garnered much attention as netizens debated on its meaning, since its creator, Filipino-American artist Jefre Manuel-Figueras, said the statue is meant “to honor those hardworking Filipinos who are doing global accomplishments and still sort of honoring their Filipino pride.”

It also created a lot of buzz for being compared to New York’s Statue of Liberty. The Victor (60 meters high) is said to be taller than the Statue of Liberty (46 meters from its feet to the torch) if you don’t count the latter’s platform (93 meters from ground level to the torch). Aside from these, however, Pinoys also couldn’t help but compare the Victor statue to some iconic pop culture references:
The Victor is a silver man. The Silver Surfer is a silver man. Need we say more?
The iconic Pinay superheroine is often seen posing with one hand up, as if gearing up for flight. The pose combined with the look of the University of the Philippines’ Oblation statue would look pretty similar to the Victor statue.
Speaking of statues, another one that you could mistake the Victor for is the one in Montreux, Switzerland with Freddie Mercury striking his iconic pose. All the Victor needs is a microphone and they’d really look similar.

In Season 6 Episode 2 of comedy series Community entitled “Lawnmower Maintenance and Postnatal Care”, the college Dean buys a virtual reality (VR) system for the school, which the students try out. The human figure in the outdated VR system looks pretty similar to The Victor.
Meanwhile, in Season 1 Episode 6 entitled “Football, Feminism and You”, the Dean brainstorms with Pierce to create an all-inclusive school mascot. They come up with the Greendale Human Being, a vaguely human-shaped mascot completely wrapped in white gauze from head to toe with only a simple G on the chest. The vague human shape definitely has a similar vibe as the Victor.
In the station ID of GMA Network in the 1990s, there was a human-looking figure putting his palms together before opening it up to bring out a rainbow. He’s known as “The Rainbow Man” or “The GMA Man.” This was part of the network’s rebranding, with its new logo featuring a rainbow that would be used until 2002.
Astig sana kung ganito na lang yung porma ng statue, di ba @gmanetwork? 😁 pic.twitter.com/DQjSDPxwIC

An action video game played on the PlayStation, Pepsiman features the eponymous Japanese superhero mascot created for the soft drink brand Pepsi. He has three outfits, but in his most popular iteration, he is made of shiny aluminum sheets, with some parts painted in blue and the Pepsi logo on his chest. Just a little more color on the Victor and it might look Pepsiman.
This one isn’t about the look as much as the pose. In action-adventure anime One Piece, Luffy and his gang are often seen giving a fist pump as a sort of salute of the Straw Hat Crew. Just like the fist pump of the Victor.

Similar to One Piece and the Victor’s pose, the end of the classic coming-of-age film The Breakfast Club sees one of the main characters pumping his fist up in the air.
