Here are 8 victories of our Filipino athletes worth celebrating: 

Alex Eala wins WTA 500 and is now world no. 20

Filipina tennis sensation Alex Eala achieved the biggest victory of her career to date by winning the World Tennis Association’s (WTA) 500 after beating world No. 3 Jessica Pegula in the Mubadala DC Open. This victory hoisted Eala up 8 spots in her world rankings, placing her at world No. 20. She is the first Filipina to take home the WTA 500 crown and is set on making history for herself and for her kababayans. 

EJ Obiena wins another gold medal

EJ Obiena bagged his sixth gold medal at Halberstadter Hohenflug pole vault competition in Germany after successfully clearing 5.76 meters on his first attempt. This win for the current World No. 14 pole vaulter came two weeks after he delivered the season-best jump of 5.85 meters at Meeting Madrid in Spain, where he finished second. Obiena’s comeback this season proves his champion mindset after battling an injury that caused him to take a hiatus last year.

PH Women’s Lacrosse Team secures first-ever world championship win

The Philippines did not leave the World Lacrosse Women’s Championship in Tokyo, Japan empty-handed, making history with their first-ever World-Championship win. Securing a 10th-place finish overall among 16 participating countries and teams, this marks an outstanding global debut by our Filipinas. It further proves that the Philippine flag is finding more fields in sport in which to wave proudly.

Rugby National Team are Union Cup’s back-to-back champions

The Philippine Volcanoes, the national rugby union team, defended their Union Cup title winning against Malaysia 39-18, equipped with the balance of teamwork and exceptional skills in the game. In the same tournament just last year, they also secured the gold by defeating Thailand in the final match of 23-6. The Philippines will be hosting the next Union Cup next year that gives the Philippine Volcanoes a chance to play on home soil. 

10-year-old prodigy Kamilla Edrianna earns 2026 U.S. Kids Golf Girls 10 World Champion title

A young Filipino golf prodigy, Kamilla Edrianna, delivered a stellar performance that snatched the 2026 U.S. Kids Golf Girls 10 World Champion title. Showing composure beyond their years, the rising star from Bacoor, Cavite, outplayed the best young golfers from across the globe. She also secured the girls’ 9-10 title at Junior World Golf Championships in San Diego and the championship at the Future Champions Golf (FCG) International in San Marcos—these incredible feats proves that the future of Philippine golf is extraordinarily bright.

Chezka Centeno is a third-time billiards world champion

Chezka “The Flash” Centeno won the 2026 Oneida WPA Women’s World 8-Ball Championship title with a 9–6 victory against Kelly “KwikFire” Fisher from Great Britain. This makes the billiards ace a three-time WPA world title holder, including World 10-Ball titles she won in 2023 and 2025. Chezka drapes the Philippine flag on her shoulders in the photo taken after she received her gold medal. 

Filipina wrestlers win medals in Vietnam

The Philippines won ten medals at the 2026 United World Wrestling (UWW) Asian & Oceania Grappling Championships in Danang, Vietnam, leading to a second-place finish overall. The five gold medals came from Charlie Ratcliff (56 kg), Travis Ratcliff (62 kg), Abe Del Rosario (57 kg), Denzel Alipio (62 kg), and Yani Alexii Lopez, who snatched gold even while competing at 57 kg—three divisions higher than her usual 44 kg class. Two silver medals were claimed by Lucas Aguilar (66 kg) and Nathaniel Nama (63 kg), while the three bronze medals went to Alo Turingan (73 kg), Lucian Salud (76 kg), and Joaquin Marte (66 kg). 

PH Trail Running Team defends its championship title

The Philippine Trail Running team successfully defended its crown at the 2026 Southeast Asia Trail Running Cup in Indonesia, securing back-to-back overall championship titles taking home 24 medals, including 11 golds, 6 silvers, and 7 bronzes. Filipino athletes delivered podium sweeps in both the men’s and women’s long trail categories. Following this remarkable victory, the two-time regional champions are now setting their sights on the upcoming Asia-Pacific Trail Running Championships in China.

The phenomenal streak of victories across diverse athletic disciplines only goes to show that the Philippines is undeniably a rising powerhouse in international sports.
