8 Wins at the 2019 AMAs We’re Exceptionally Proud Of

Nov 26, 2019   •   Kyzia Maramara

In case you missed it, the American Music Awards 2019 happened and it was a celebration of music, artists, and fan love. The AMAs is known to be the world’s largest fan-voted awards show, so every artist who stepped on that stage and received an award got there by their talent and by the love they’ve received from their fans. There were a lot of cute moments and great performances but here are our artist favorite wins from this year:

Halsey

Via EOnline

Award: Favorite Song – Pop/Rock – “Without Me”

Halsey won her first-ever AMA with her song “Without Me.” Aside from looking like she had tons of fun dancing with Taylor Swift in the audience and performing on stage with Camilla Cabello and Taylor Swift during the latter’s “Shake It Off,” Halsey also delivered a great acceptance speech which she maybe might have referenced her Grammys snub. This girl is brave!

Dan + Shay

Via Taste of Country

Award: Favorite Song – Country – “Speechless”

American pop/country duo consisting of Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney continue to dazzle everyone with their talents – even the AMAs noticed. Early this year Dan + Shay won a Grammy for “Best Country Duo Group Performance” and a Billboard Music Award for “Top Country Duo Group” among their plenty of other nominations. If you’re still looking for a perfect wedding song, check these guys out.

Billie Eilish

Awards: New Artist of the Year, Favorite Artist – Alternative Rock

It didn’t come as a shock to see 17-year-old Billie Eilish smashing it on stage and getting awards. She had her AMAs debut with her song “All Good Girls Go to Hell,” and accepted her awards besting other heavyweights such as Imagine Dragons and Panic! at the Disco. Her debut studio album When We Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go has also been nominated for next year’s Grammy Awards.

Post Malone

Awards: Favorite Album – Rap/Hip-Hop – “Hollywood’s Bleeding”

Posty had seven nominations for the night including Artist of the Year and Favorite Male Artist – Pop/Rock but he managed to win one award – Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album. His masterpiece “Hollywood’s Bleeding” which Pitchfork once said this about: “Post Malone’s choruses are just stupefyingly good. Each one sounds like it could furnish a down payment on a personal helipad.”

Lil Nas X

Award: Favorite Song – Rap/Hip-hop – “Old Town Road” ft. Billy Ray Cyrus

Who else can’t get this song out of their head? Lil Nas X had 5 AMA nominations including New Artist of the Year but it’s his collaboration with legend Billy Ray Cyrus that earned him a trophy. Go ahead and watch the music video again. You know you want to.

Beyoncé

Award: Favorite Female Artist – Soul/R&B

TBH we never doubted ‘Yonce would win this category. She won her only nomination beating Lizzo and Ella Mai. Beyonce has been an exceptional artist for decades and every other artist probably looks up to her the most – don’t deny it! Her cover of “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” with Donald Glover is still giving us chills!

BTS

Awards: Favorite Duo or Group POP/ROCK, Tour Of The Year, Favorite Social Artist

ARMY’s everywhere were in ecstasy as South Korea’s (dare we say the world’s?) favorite septet won three awards at the AMAs including winning Favorite Social Artist twice in a row. BTS tied with Khalid as the second most-awarded artists of the night after Taylor Swift. It’s astounding to see how far this group has come; early this year, they even won the Billboard Music Awards Top Duo/Group! Unfortunately the boys weren’t able to attend the AMAs but they sent out a heartfelt video greeting instead:

Asian artists with the most #AMAs wins:

#1. @BTS_twt — 4

Favorite Social Artist : 2018🏆,2019🏆
Tour Of The Year: 2019🏆
Favorite Duo/Group: 2019🏆#AmericasBestGroupBTS #BTS

Taylor Swift

Via Twitter

Awards: Artist of the Decade, Artist of the Year, Favorite Pop/Rock Album – Lover, Favorite Music Video — You Need to Calm Down, Favorite Female Artist, Favorite Artist Adult Contemporary

What a night it has been for the one and only Taylor Swift and her loyal Swifties. Not only has Taylor been awarded the prestigious and well-deserved Artist of the Decade, she also took home 5 other awards and delivered a killer medley of her hit songs for the past decade. Taylor has made history by becoming the artist with the most AMA wins of all time (29 in total), surpassing Michael Jackson! After all the highs and lows she experienced the past few years more so the past few months, winning all these awards is just what she needed.

Kyzia spends most of her time capturing the world around her through photos, paragraphs, and playlists. She is constantly on the hunt for the perfect chocolate chip cookie, and a great paperback thriller to pair with it.
