We’re now about to end another year and certainly a lot happened in the last 365 days. Here, we look back on some of the most unexpected and untimely celebrity deaths of 2018.
The genius behind all our favorite Marvel superheroes died at the age of 95 on November 18 due to cardiac arrest. Stan Lee left us a legacy of beloved characters such as Iron Man, Black Panther, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men superheroes, and so much more.
The American rapper was found dead in his home on September 7 due to an accidental drug overdose. He released his fifth and final album this year and was recently nominated for a Grammy. He was 26.
The Queen of Soul died at her home in August due to advanced pancreatic cancer. Aretha was one of the most influential singers of all time, giving us the hits Respect and (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman, to name a few. The iconic singer was 76.
The celebrity chef-author was in the midst of working on an episode of his TV show Parts Unknown when he was found dead of an apparent suicide. He was known to be a lover of several Filipino food staples such as sisig and ube.
The Irish singer accidentally died due to accidental drowning earlier this year at the age of 46. O’Riordan was known as the vocalist of the rock band The Cranberries, which gave us hits such as Linger, Zombie, and Ode to My Family.
The popular handbag designer was found dead of an apparent suicide in June at the age of 55. The designer was the founder of the Kate Spade New York brand, which released handbags and accessories for women, as well as a line for men’s bags.
EDM powerhouse DJ and producer Avicii died earlier this year due to self-inflicted wounds at the age of 28. The DJ was notable for hits such as Levels, Wake Me Up, I Could Be the One, to name a few.
The famed physicist and author who was battling the ALS disease for years died peacefully at his home at aged 76. Hawking was known for his contribution in science, particularly his work on black holes, modern cosmology, and relativity. He was the subject of the critically-acclaimed film The Theory of Everything.
